    Hi,
I recently purchased 2 hitachi 7k320 to put in my 6831fx but the problem is I don't know where I can get the screws required to mount the hard drive to the caddy. Any ideas? does best buy or radioshack sell 2.5" hard drive screws?

You can install the hard drives perfectly well without any screws. The caddies along with the no slip padding hold them in very securely.

will this cause extra vibration and noise? since my 7k320 are known to be noisy as is.

Why not just take one of the back screws and one of the front screws (one from each side) out and put them in your second caddy?

2 Screws is plenty to hold the hard drives in

Best bet then would be to try a computer repair shop then. They should have hard drive caddy screws.

My local radio shack has them as well, but the one in the next town over doesn't. So I guess its kinda a hit or miss with major chains like that.

Either that or call some place that sells laptops or computer supplies (newegg or tiger direct) and see if they can find them for you (sometimes they have things not listed on their web site)

Always, ALWAYS, use the propper sized screw driver when working with computer parts. I did the 2-screw thing as well and had no problems.

You could try a screw extracter, but on a screw that small, your only choice may be to drill it out or leave it in place. The problem with drilling it out is the Seagate spec says you have a max screw depth of 3.8mm (then you run into electronics or the platter enclosure), so one slip and you've ruined a hard drive.
