For those who don't know, I am a fan of the 6860 as well as a employee of best buy.
I was checking out employee tool kit today at work and found the info I was looking for...
The P-7811FX will begin shipping Aug 14.
The new FX is said to have a 17" 1900*1200, 200GB 7200RPM HD, 4GB of DDR3 800, and the 9800M GTS. That is all I can recall from memory

 -

who knows but it wont be a big difference between these laptops.
by the way who will what more than 6860 (who got it for 1099$ like i did).
post the specs quick
      -

that's awesome-sauce
 -

cpu chipset price ?
 -

It says DDR3, what do you think royk50?

Sweet. Are you going to be switching to the P 7811? -

hrm... now the question becomes do i get a new 6860 when i get back into town or will it be replaced with a 7811-fx do to the fact that i'm outside of country for the next few weeks and cant go and actually get a replacement.
I'm curious.
I hate the hard drive, but i LOVE most everything else listed. I cannot wait until you insider trade that information away and we can all enjoy it.
Be sure to black out any markings that tell what store your from, just to protect yourself.
I dont know if its 800mHz RAM then its DDR2 or if its DDR3 then it has to be at least 1066 right? -

Nope. DDR2 and DDR3 can both be clocked at 800 Mhz, but like I said, he seems to have specified DDR3 RAM, so it's looking to be a Montevina Chipset.
 -

DDR3 will be expensive
 -

It will be a very nice system. From what I saw today, we aren't recieving any more shipments of the 6860.
 -

Yes, but the notebook comes with it, so no worries there. I was wondering about that as well.
Also, your sig is a tad big I think, might want to cut it down a few lines. And 3dmark vantage, not vintage.
I hope they reinforced the screen cover this time. I really do. -

Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
ah ok... i've never seen DDR3 clocked so low... seems odd as we honestly havent even reached DDR2's full potiential yet. I have a bad feeling that the DDR3 is going to be a bad bottle neck to the system unless its actuall 1066+ that has been clocked way down to give it better timings.
I would much prefer super low latency 800mHz DDR2 right now over maybe good maybe bad DDR3. As its been shown quite a few times that you get no real gain out of DDR3 yet.
Oh well at least it will have the new chipsets and for a good price
      -

Pretty much. DDR3 hasn't shown very much improvement over DDR2, and it's overpriced right now, which leads me to wonder what Gateway's margins are.
 -

Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
I think their margins are still pretty good, just think all of the FX lines use the same basics on ALL of their componets now from case to screen to ram... the ony real diffrence will be a hard drive and CPU (which the CPU is the most expensive part of the computer) But they more than likely save enough on the parts (which most are still hold overs from teh last 2 FX lines) to more than make money even if the laptop goes for 1400-1500. -

Don't forget a brand new motherboard, which I would bet is even more expensive than the CPU. If it's the P8400, Intel's retail pricing on it is in the low 200s. Gateway likely gets a even better price. They can't re-use the RAM, as it's DDR3, not DDR2. They don't fit. They're going to need a lot more 1920 x 1200 screens as well, as I doubt they made as many 171/172/173 with 1920 x 1200 models as they did 68XX models.
They're definitely making $$, I'm just wondering how much. -
lol yes i read it the DDR3 but decided not to add "i know stuff" info to a question.
just ask it all (same price). -

So what's the pricing of the laptop? $1400?
 -

Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
[puts pinky into mouth] One Million Dollars!!!!!!!

Probably about 100 more than the 6860 is my guess i've heard anything from the same to 1500, so i'm gonna go with 1450 -

i wonder if cosmetic wise it will look any different ? wonder if there using an all new case or the same old same old.
 -

I;m not a fan of DDR3 cause i thing it was more like experiment rather than good product.
i might be wrong.
DDR2 works fine and still most of us use it and they are hurrying up to much we still don't have proper DDR3 for desktops and they are moving to DDR3. this might be a business thing. -

what is 3Dmark Vintage ???
how many Deathadders you have?
what is Nvidia ForceWave ?
sorry its late
      -

Do you think the laptop would be sold out online on the day Best Buy launches it?
 -

Chase, thanks a million for the info!
Sucks though, that I won't be able to get it on my trip to the states

Hopefully there will still be some 6860's left in the Tukwila BB in seattle, or else I'm screwed. -

This laptop is not going to cost the same as the 6860... It'll be much more expensive (at least 1700 dollars)
 -

$1400-$1450 according to a couple of sources
 -
I don't think so. It will cost that much if it has a Core 2 Duo that's over 2.2 Ghz. Apart from that, it most probably will cost around $1300-$1500. That's what so attractive about this gaming laptop. It's the best value.
 -

I found this on the internet:
".......The good news for Intel is that its new chips are smoking-fast and far more energy-efficient that anything on the market. I've been testing a new Gateway $1,400 P-7811FX with a discrete Nvidia graphics card, which will be a Best Buy exclusive starting in August, and have been impressed with its power as a media-centric and gaming pc. Even typical business software launches smoothly and quickly. I've been particularly impressed the security software from Norton, running in the background, appears to have no appreciable effect on other tasks......."

Hope this helps. God Bless

If it costs $1400 like the article said, then the P6860FX and M6860FX would both have to drop a couple hundred of dollars in price :/
 -

The P6860FX has already been withdrawn from stores. And, I'm pretty sure there isn't M6860FX.
 -

Actually those models are discontinued.
EDIT: You beat me to it!!
And I believe he is talking about the M-6850FX
      -

wow, that laptop looks like quite a deal
 -
August 14th needs to come sooner.
 -
The new lappy will go for 1449.99
 -
Nope, pretty much looks the same. Just dont upen up the bottom.
      -
When do you plan coming to the states? I'm sure you will be able to grab one on ebay after it's out for a few weeks.
 -
Your guess is correct. I showed 1449.99 in RSS today... I believe that should be the final price.
 -
Maybe he is thinking of the 6850?
As far the the 6860 still in stores, alot of stores still have them, we probably just won't be getting any more in.
Im wondering if I should give my 6860 a bath and go get the replacement.
Even the new Asus with the 9700M looks pretty nice, especially for 1249 -

The Tosh X305 is a pretty decent deal as well. Although some think it to be a bit gaudy.
 -

Looking at the specs of the 9800mgts, unless Gateway popped in a faster cpu, the replacement should be about as fast as the 6860-fx. Maybe slightly faster; a small oc to the 8800mgts and the difference would be unnoticeable.
 -
Bummer i was hoping for a redesign but i guess thats how they keep pumping them out so fast.
 -

The 9800m GTS isn't much of a move from the 8800m counter-part. It's core is clocked 100mhz faster, and it will run cooler, but no other differences aside from that. But, the resolution and DDR3 support looks sweet.
No replacement for me though... already perfectly happy with my P-FX! -

Ya 100mhz on the core and 250mhz more on the shader from what johnkss posted its 600/1500 which is a pretty large leap there as well also they may be even more headroom for overclocking , though in the end i doubt your going to see a massive jump in performance over ours now even with the new cpu and ram. im more concerned if they stuck with the same old crappy powersupply we got .
 -
I'd like to get the new one when it comes out. Infact, I'll probably try and get another laptop in the next year.
But as far as I'm concerned, I dont think the jump to DDR3 800 is a big one. DDR3 is just pricey as hell and there isn't much of a difference from 667 to 800.
Correct me if I'm wrong since I'm talking about DDR2 667 to DDR3 800. -

 July 28th through Aug 9th
Having stuff shipped to me is not an option
I live in CostaRica and import taxes would nail me. I gotta buy it in person during my trip at a brick and mortar store.

Hopefully there will be some 6860's left, or by some stroke of luck there will be an early ship of 7811's available at the physical store. Although I have no idea the real possibilities of that happening (I'm guessing none haha) -
Not sure, but we might get them early. You never know...
Alot of stores have the new Toshiba Qosimo and it's not even on the .com yet. -

what is the max ram on that ?
 -

you have the same problem that i had but i managed to pass ti.
If you have a friend (Like me, i have a friend in New York) say to him, buy this lappy for me at BB . Just put he lappy bog in another that is bugger(like those brown boxes made of carton) and declare it as used item, post if ( i used FedEx). I had no problem with this and look i have this in lapy in UK.
Isnt sweet -

The only downside is the hard drive capacity. I liked how the P-6860 had a 320GB HD. Oh well.
@Chase
Do you know if there's going to be a student discount sale or something like that for the new Gateway?
Do you think that the P-6860's price will drop before it's all sold out? -

I need P-7811FX now !
      -

 That easy?
I don't know man. Last time I had a PC shipped to me, it took about 2 months and I still got nailed.
I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope I run across an early ship of 7811's. If not then I guess I'll wait till someone I know visits the states and gets it for me. Pretty sure if I go that way I'll end up having it way sooner than shipped.
Thanks for the advice. -

i went same way, had it waiting in my brother house a month or so. but never payed any import tax nor int. shipping.
6860 Replacement due within 3-4 weeks
