I had to go to Bestbuy to replace my stock one because it failed on me. And the new one isn't feeling that much cooler either. Could my laptop be stressing the adapter to the brink of destruction? or could it be the room temp?
My room is hot, but I have a small fan on the desk facing the laptop and ac adapter (from the right-side; so air isn't blowing back into the laptop exhausts).
But this is worrying me, what if I use this at college where I don't have a fan facing that adapter and it burns out.

not sure if mine gets too hot either really. this is my first laptop so i dont have anything to compare it too. mine sure gets warm though. not too hot to hold, but it generates some good heat.
-
Any "Power-Brick" will get hot, (hence the sticker), but when it becomes "boiling" hot, you have a problem.
-
ya mine can get way beyond hot so i chatted with gateway on there live chat thingy and there sending me a new one , should be here in a day or so .
hopefully if enough people keep having problems with there bricks maybe they will address it. alot of people have requested replacements already though im not holding my breath for them to do anything considering the price of the machine. -
Quadzilla, did you have to send the old one back?
-
I believe the stock 6860 ac adapter is a 120 watt and after looking at BestBuy.com it appears they only sell a 90watt for Gateway, so if thats the one you got, theres your issue. The 6860 sucks a TON of juice and the 90watt is struggling to keep up, thus heating up to the equivalent of a stove top. I suggest ordering one straight from Gateway.

i just got mine today and there was no return slip in it for a send back nor was i asked for a CC so i guess i can keep the old one for backup . The new brick looks like a refurb cause the cord was wrapped around brick and no wall plug but either way im happy i have a spare now and im using it just havent had time to test it yet.

I have an extra 90watt that came with my 6850 that I forgot to put back in the box when I returned it, if anybody needs one.
-
Just checked, mine came with the 120w Power Brick.

The stock one is a 120watt one; I doubt that varies from lot to lot.

Anybody knows if there is anything smaller for our lap???
i use to fly a lot, and this one is a monster... hehe..
Thanks. -
The current one has a hard enough time powering the machine as it is. I wouldn't even WANT to know what would happen with a smaller one. -
i understand.. but.. still... it is a monster.. hehe...

I just got my replacement adapter from Gateway; but they didn't give me the cord that connects it to the wall outlet! xD
Anyone know where I can buy that three prong outlet cord? -
Dont you still have the cord from your old one???
-
....but now I still have to unplug the desk-placed adapter to get that cable. xD -
Ahh I gotcha. I checked ebay and there are tons of 3 prong cords on there.
