Ok, guys well I think I am going to be picking up my 6860 tomorrow :) . But I have a question. My dad wants me to get the 3 year accidental warranty, because I will be in college. How do I do this? And it is like $240 right?

Walk into best buy... and say "I want to buy the 3yr acciental PSP for my laptop" and I'm sure they'll be happy enough to sell you one.

I think they're $350 though... unless you're getting a reduced cost 6860 at which point that might change the PSP cost.

Does Gateway offer a accidental warranty???

so the gateway warranty is $240?... is it three year as well?

I can't seem to find an accidental warranty on the gateway website... :(

Also, what's the chance the gateway would fully replace the laptop (either with another 6860, or a newer current model say if it fully died say 6 months before the warranty expired?

I didn't get the gateway warrenty except for my P-171x fx. I did ask gateway about the warrenty for my best buy lappts, they said I could get it, but I am not sure about how long you have to do it, I would tell them you just got it when you decide to get it.

Gate way rep told me you could buy the one or two year extended warranties up until 2 days before your one year warranty runs out. think she said 1 yr was 109 and two year was i forgot. No accidental was available. All of this for a 6860fx from Best Buy.

I'd suggest my new find... SquareTrade ( http://www.squaretrade.com)

I just bought a new PocketPC phone (XV6700) on ebay & they offered the extended warranty thru these guys, ran like $20 for 2-years. If my phone can't be fixed, they send me a check for $180. I bought the phone for $175, hehehehe.

I just checked their quote system, for a new $1349 laptop, is $135 for 3-years. Worth checking out.

One important thing though, that $135 is for a 3 year warranty - not including accidental warranty. The accidental damage warranty is $202, making the total $337 for 3 year warranty with accidental damage. Also, you cannot get the accidental damage plan after 30 days from the original purchase date with Squaretrade.

The gateway rep told me that gateway doesn't sell additional warranties for their products purchased at retail outlets .. i.e. bestbuy. This was before I purchased a 6860 so was he just blowing smoke to get me to but a notebook direct from gateway?

Hey, this is my 1st post ,as i just registered today. Ive been following this forum for at least 6 weeks. Copped my P-6860 nearly a month ago (when it was $1249 @ BB). You've guys helped me out w/ a ton of inquiries.

As far as BB's warranty goes on the laptop (as w/ all PC components), the purchaser has 14 days from purchase date to still be able to add an extended warranty (or return for exchange/refund). It's 30 days for all other electronics.

I myself skimmed out on the warranty. Ive purchased way too many of those plans and never had to ever utilize them, except for Bricked 360 consoles.

I found the plan to be a tad too steep for my blood (even w/ the Accidental clause). I felt close to $400 (after taxes) would make my purchase not so much of a "deal" anymore (for me). In the same token, I would never try to deter anyone from purchasing an extended warranty on a laptop or any pricy purchase. I know for a fact, Im gonna be doing a ton of tweaking (CPU and Screen ) in the near future.

I purchased this Wenger Swiss Gear bag for it. Im not too fond of backpacks, dating back to my school days.Top notch, Stylish, well padded ,with plenty of pockets for other accessories and then some and very durable. The FX series fits nice and snug with the battery still attached. (will take and post pics when I get a chance)

I'll see you guys in the other threads/topics. ENJOY
