what the current situation on cpu upgrades for the 6860? i remember reading a while back that some form of extreme chip could be put in.

im still using all stock hardware. i havent been playing any games for a while and i decided to pop in the empire total war demo. well, suffice to say i think ill have to look at an upgrade.

are those factory samples on ebay legit? what are my best options?

I got a Engineering Sample T9300 a bit over a month ago and it is rock solid. It seems more stable than my new retail boxed AMD processor...

that extreme cpu you are talking about is the x7800, X7900, and X9000 for your laptop, the X9100 wont run on yours. i would say the best deal for all of those are the X7800, i found one on ebay for about $170 and it overclocks to 3.0. i would rather for a T9300 running at 2.5 for any of those CPUs, run cooler more energy efficient.

well in terms of the best investment, which do you recommend, considering the age of my model? Basically im looking to extend the life of my laptop for as long as possible with the ability to run future games with the highest possible graphic settings.

also, where can someone get started who is new to overlocking.... any guides out there? will i see much performance improvement?

mabye i can oc mine until i land one of those chips
