I had my 6860 for around 4 months. I gotta say I really like it, it's just perfect specs for me, size, speed, look. But I feel like I have a laptop from a dolar store and everyday I hope everything will continue to work. So far my dvd drive died on me, tried to fix so many times even formatted but it's clearly dead and can't write dvds. Then my ethernet card has some connectivity issues. I could not get network connection, first time fixed itself after restart, last time I had to unscrew the bottom and jiggle the wires and cards hoping for it to show up as connected and that solved the problem :) Now sometimes when I disconnect headphones the sound is not there, I have to grab the headphones, plug them back in and then take them out and the sound will work then. So wonder what else will b new :)

If u don't wanna read my gateway problems just read below and don't mind the top :)

So what can I get with the same specs or a little better that's quality made ? I know price won't b same but with gateway I realized that u get what u paid for.

lol you get what you pay for, pay double for a sager that does the same thing if you want...

Im not going to suggest anything else, I dont think anything in that prive range will be any better at all.

the 6860 has a reliable and stable history... but if you won't settle for it, get a sager like narsnail recommended. keep in mind, you'll be paying hundreds more for only a slight increase in build quality.

You must have gotten a lemon, besides stiff media buttons my 6860 has been awesome these last 6.5 months. Do you have any kind of warranty from BB or have you contacted Gateway?

Also try a BIOS upgrade or update your drivers.

guys I really like the 6860, it's an awsome machine, sigh, but I feel like it's about to fall apart on me :) I hope I'm just being paranoid and issues get resolved but being canadian, sending for repair isn't really an option for me. I don't want to stay computerless for months :) So that's why I'm asking if there's solid build laptops. I spent $1200 on mine, so I'm not comparing $680 worth gateway that some people got a deal for. I can spend $500 more if that gives me a solid product.
If not then oh well, I don't have any other choices, I keep what I have and keep my fingers crossed :)

And some of u, cheer up, don't get too excited on the other end there :)

well if your in canada your going to have to spend about $800 more to get something of the same caliber, but with better build quality.

Yeah my 6860FX is just as i bought it...
This laptop class is not meant to be picked up and traveled around with...
Get a M1330 Dell, or an EEE PC 1000 for that kinda stuff.
But if it is just crapping out on your desk then you must have gotten a defective model then you should be able to return at best but with a good argument.
