Hello. I bought 6860FX about 2years ago and I loved it!
But about 5 days ago, when I turned it on Windows boot up but I did not get any screen.(it was all black). So I went to safe mode and disabled Geforce driver. I am able to get to Windows now but I get this weird pink wavy lines all over the screen. Does anyone know what is happening to my laptop? Please help me! I want to be able to use Geforce driver! but even installed different versions of driver...everytime it just shows black screen and nothing.

Sorry to tell you but I think your gpu is dead. That's what my 8600m gt did when it died. You can look into baking your mobo for a Temporary solution but a true fix will require a new mobo or a new laptop.

    thank you for your reply!
I tried tap the screen and did not work...Thanks for the tip though!
this afternoon, to bake mobo, i tried to disassemble through the guideline. but I got all confused and scared that I might damaged the computer.

I contacted gateway(I'm out of warranty) and they said if I pay $200+shipping fee they will fix it for me. I was wondering, is it worth it? or should I just buy another computer?

$200 + shipping is a bit steep, but its a fair price for a factory motherboard replacement. i think your 6860 is worth more than $200, and you'd still be paying significantly more $ to get a laptop with a GPU as strong as these.

Looks like my GPU is dead too. I am only getting this during start up but I went ahead and took it into best buy and they are going to "junk out" my 6860 leaving me with $1350 of best buy credit.

Not a bad offer from BB.
How long you keep your GPU overclocked. I have never did it since my CPU is slow as turtle so no need.

I had my GPU overclocked all the time haha. 600,900,1500 was my default speed. Strange thing is though when it failed I wasn't overclocked, I was playing TF2 and I kept getting driver crashes so I went to stock clocks and leter on that night I started to get lines all over the screen.

Yeah I had the 3 year warranty. It is not cheap but it is worth it when they have to replace your laptop. since I paid $1350 for my 6860 I have that amount to put towards a new laptop.

Baking fixed mine when it did that.

Either way, grab yourself some nice desktop components instead + a Asus Eee or something. That's what I'm doing next time I have some money saved up.

The credit can only go towards a new laptop. If i pick a laptop cheaper than what I paid for then I loose the rest ot the credit. I am probably going to get the best buy version of the g73. I am waiting for them to get the one with the Nvidia card. They have the i7-740, 5870, 6gb for $1199 right now but I want the GTX 460m.

Only way I know to fix it is to bake the mobo or get a new mobo.
