I'm currently installing Windows 7 on my 6860fx, I'm just wondering if any complications have risen with other people trying out this operating system.
Does it use the same drivers as Vista?
-
only problem i had is with the nvidia driver off windows update, it wouldn't install and i had to hard boot the notebook.
avoid it and install the official nvidia mobile driver or one of the latest l2go modded betas. -
Thanks, this much at least makes me feel safe about installing it.
Do the dox optimised also work on windows 7? -
it should i went with the nvidia official mobile drivers.
if memory serves iata used dox on win 7. -
Wow, so far I am really impressed with Windows 7. Almost everything on my laptop was automatically detected. The only thing I have run so far is the dox 180 drivers.
Right now I only have 2 uninstalled devices:
-Mass Storage Controller
-Unknown Device
I'm going to head to windows update and see if any of them get installed. Then I'm gonna start running some benchmarks to see how close I come to my scores in xp. -
i have it installed, but i'll probably uninstall it, i don't like the taskbar. but i didn't have any problems when installing.
-
the unknown device is the modem you can install it off gateway site or the driver backup dvd
-
i had installed for about an hour, but i couldnt get my esata port to work with the Silicon Image driver, luckily i had a fresh backup of my vista install (using acronis) and am now back on vista. ill probably give windows 7 another shot after i partition the drive and dual boot when i find a working esata driver.

Really my eSATA works fine? Well it did do before I fooked my laptop. Just run Windows Update - the Mass Storage Controller is the eSATA controller I think and WU has a driver for it. And yeah Dox's drivers work fine. Beta testing his new release at the mo. They run pretty well too.

So far im really digging x64 W7... I really like the new taskbar/WMP.... Now all thats left for me is to customize

Anyone figured out how to get the media buttons and turbo memory to work in Windows 7? I replaced the links to my liking in regedit mainly control set 1/2/3.... still doesnt work unless they are the default item (stupid Windows center)....and Turbo memory will not allow me to enable it... doesnt matter how many times I reset
-
Right now, I've liked most things about windows 7 over xp. The only thing that will probably keep me back at xp is that my processor is still taking a big hit by running windows 7. I'm sure eventually a tweaking guild will come out for it, but when running Dolphin(gamecube emu, cpu intensive) it used to run at about 55-60 fps on xp, but now it runs at about 25-40fps depending on how many models are on the screen. I might go back to xp for the rest of this term and come back in about March when the beta has been out for a while. Hopefully I will be able to get it running faster.

Faster than Vistax64? Comparison in benches?
-
i am having some very strange problem.
every second boot, since i installed the beta, the gpu driver and the touch pad driver fail to start. the next boot no problem. it had happen before with the 6956 x86 build (touch pad only 1:3 ). vista is fine every time.
changed already 3 gpu drivers same thing
??? -
I am running Vista 64bit/Windows 7 64bit dual boot on my desktop, no problems so far.
-
no problem for me and at nood you can customize how it looks if you right click and click properties
-
what's the expiry date for beta ?
-
Aug, 2009 I think
-
-
Mine expires 1st July at 23:59.

Im sorry for asking the same questions... but are your media buttons on your gateway laptops working with custom applicationpaths? The play, stop, backward, forward and mute ones work... but the other 3 are unresponsive once you change them from the default windows media center
-
-
5 hours difference - are you EST by any chance?
GMT - EST = 5 hours.
I never use the media buttons by the way - I assume you've tried the reg fixes to change them? -
the only media button i use is mute and it works
-
-
Stability?
-
by the way, any incentive to install 7 if i have vista 64? -
Yes, this...
in Windows 7
over
Also I actually noticed while installing the same games.... it's so much faster to finish. -
-
CPU usage of -1%, that's pretty efficient

To get that high burst rate, I need to switch something within the Intel Matrix manager... without it, in Vista64 itll be just around 130mb/s I think...
In Windows7, without it, it's already peaking 330mb/s -
Welll, after further experamentation, I am liking Windows 7 64bit more and more. On my 3.0ghz x9000 running 3dmark06 on 1280x800. I ended up getting a 10500 score overclocking my gpu to 625/900/1400. That's only 500 below my 11000 I got on windows xp 32bit at the same clock speeds.
All of my games are running as fast as they did on xp. I did notice a few problems with loading screens on Guild Wars/Valve apps. The loading times were much quicker too. I'm positive that Windows 7 is much better at working with raid than xp was.
Except for the occasional blue screen that I expect from a beta os. I think Windows 7 has officially got me to leave Windows xp. -
Small problem.
I bought a hitachi 7k320 last week and instead of installing vista I decided to install windows 7 but the drive feels slow.
my 7 rating is 2.9 and hd tune shows
HD Tune: Hitachi HTS723232L9A360 Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 19.0 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 72.8 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 58.8 MB/sec
Access Time : 16.9 ms
Burst Rate : 69.0 MB/sec
CPU Usage : -1.0%
I'm guessing that's not normal. I checked for any pins but it doesn't have any (the OEM WD has them).
I took out my orginal drive and moved it to the left slot and put the hitachi in the right slow where the oem drive was. I did leave both in when installing but I don't know how that would make any difference.
Anyone else have the same problem?
