Has anybody ever had the screen go completely pink while playing a 3d game on a 6860fx? This has been happening occasionally to me for a few months, but now I'm starting to get worried after it happened back to back within 5 minutes of playing guild wars after a restart.

I'm wondering whether this is a software or a hardware problem? If it is a hardware problem, what are my chances of getting a replacement at best buy?

a few months?! god you should have exchanged it when the first time it happened, or at least called Bestbuy or Gateway. But if you can prove that you did nothing wrong, they will repair it for free

So far the only thing I've done is install windows xp. Will best buy still repair it?

Also the first time it happened was just once. It never happened again until now when it happened twice. Those are the only times it has ever turned purple.

could it be the backlight is dying ?

i have read a thread here where a guy posted that a pinkish glow/screen could be indicative for a problem with the backlight.

is your notebook still running while this pink screen occurs ? or does it shut down and restart ?

It's still running, you can even move the cursor around on the screen. You just can't get out of the game that is currently running.

well, since it happens "in-game" what happens when you press ctrl+alt+del ? can you exit the game ? everything back to normal once you´ve ended the game?

we've tried ctrl+alt+del and alt+f4, neither will get you out of the game. The error only seems to occur on more graphically intense games, Guildwars/TF2/Crysis will all crash eventually, but Phanasty Star Online(old game) has never errored once.

if there was a real problem the notebook should actually shut down. it rather sounds like a driver problem.

find out if there is another game showing the same problems - if it only happened twice in guild wars yet, that does not qualify you for a replacement. you will need some hard proof that something is wrong with your notebook.

for now you can try some things yourself :
    - try updating your graphics and sound drivers.
    - look for the temps of the graphics card - is it overheating ?
    - check if there is a know problem with the game and your graphics card / driver...

It's definitly not overheating, once it errored about 30 seconds into Team Fortress 2 after booting up in the morning.

Its not just the game since its happened on several graphically intense games.

I'm reformating the computer right now and will pick up the most recent drivers. Hopefully this will stop the error from happening.

I've been searching around on the nvidia forums, and it seems im not the only person thats been having this problem, almost every person had an 8800 graphics card with 167.?? version of the nvidia drivers. So hopefully when I reformat the computer, the new drivers will keep it running.

I just got a 6860fx and have the same issue, has happened two times now while playing world of warcraft.

The first time the screen went all black, the second time a purple/pinkish color, but the system keeps working normally.

I can tell by the sounds of my applications and the standard procesing of the machine.

    Dunno if are the drivers.

I can almost guarantee you that it is a driver or an OS problem. First I would try using one of the customized drivers from the sticky in this forum. If that doesn't solve your problem, try to reformat the computer. I never reinstalled drivers, but when I reformatted the computer, I never ran into the problem again.
