    Hi.
I have a 7426GX. Same chassis as all of the newer ones (7510GX, MX7515). This computer generally doesn't get that hot, but after I leave it on for about 10 hours or more (even when in standby for an amount of time), which is actually something that I don't do often, it gets rather hot. Not to the point of overheating, but much hotter to the touch. I notice that the fans refuse to turn on as often as the first few hours that it is on, though they do turn on sometimes. My solution is to restart my computer, and the fans are then running for a long time, so I know that this must be abnormal. This isn't a huge deal to me, as long as it doesn't cause problems in the future. But I was wondering if anyone with a gateway 7/emachines 6 series have been experiencing this, and if there is a quick fix for it.

Oh, and I was on battery one day, and I opened up Everest to see that my processor has not been under-clocking. Is this normal? I know that this wouldn't have to do with anything though, for I am plugged in 97% of the time. Thank you for your time and help.

    Hey Hellmanns,

I don't know about direct fan control. I'm sure you checked the power control panel. What are your settings? I use speedSwitch to underclock ( usually set on Max Battery or 800mhz) I wonder if the problem is Everest - Maybe start the troubleshooting with verifing the processor speed.

    hope this helps!

    Thanks nsl,
My scheme is now set to "dynamic switching". I got speedswitch, and it is now running at 802MHz! Thank you very much. I assume that "dynamic switching" will allow it to return to full power when it's needed, will it not?

I will have to see if this does anything with the fan issue. But in the mean time, I'm still open to suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Hellmanns

I was playing around with the options in speedswitch, and I noticed that it was windows reports the maximum speed of the processor, so I guess it might have been underclocking the whole time. So anyways, windows has been up for about 22 hours now, standby for maybe 12 hours. The bottom of my computer is again hot, so this didn't solve my problem. Thankyou for the advice though, nsl.
    Still open to comments :)
