I know best buy has to try and push getting the warranty with them, right?Anybody who got the 7510gx from best buy get that and do you think it will come in handy? Can't really give gateway support praises. What does best buy actually do if it's broke? Well I void it by formatting th drive? Can i get some of the run down about this...

Best Buy doesn't care if you format your drive, it doesn't void their performance service plan. It's not an "extended warranty" its a insurance program more or less. They will fix any hardware issues that you may have. They won't mess with software through the service plan...that requires geek squad and some more money. If a hardware problem comes about, they will try to fix it. If they can't they will replace your product for comprable technology...which means you could get something better...but never something worse. If they have to fix a product more then 3 times...it falls under their no lemon policy and you get a new product...YAY. Thats about the jist of the Performance Service Plan. I would definately get it...because they dont care if you void gateways stupid warranty.

I was told you get a new battery from BB once a year also, which is let alone probably worth about 60 dollars. So 3 years 60 is 180 which is more then 1/2 the cost of the warranty.

60 dollars??? thats an underestimate if i've ever seen one. Most notebook batteries average 120-180 dollars...some are a little less and some can be a lot more. The 7510gx is about 120 or higher if I remember right (i checked once because I was looking for a 12 cell batter...why don't they make one???). And its not exactly one new battery per year. It's whenever they don't hold as much of a charge as they did when you bought the notebook. So that can happen in as little as 6 months easily. Li-ion batteries only have an average life of 18 months...so it makes sense that they start degrading a little before that.

    Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy the 7510gx from best buy and i have a couple of questions. For gaming i need a drive faster than 4200rpms, how would i change the drive and would best buy do it for me. also the external battery that Xerxes showed would that be better than buying an extra battery or not. lastly would i be able to play half life 2 decently?

    1. If you buy the new hard drive from Best Buy they'll probably do it for you. Otherwise they'll probably charge a fee. Note that you'll have to buy a more expensive 2.5" drive than the 3.5" drives used for desktops.

    2. Probably not.

    3. Hell yes.

Yeah that device is ok to say the least... But I would prefer another fully charged battery, or a 12 cell... Angel I have to say i doubt that will happen though... With the state of Gateway as it is... Unless(i'll get back to this in another post)...

Putting a another hard drive isn't that hard drive... Don't think... heh
I'm looking to Seagate or Hitachi for 100 gig 7200rpm...
And you can play half life 2 without making a change I hear....

Yeah, upgrading the hard drive isn't a necessity for most games, since the system has enough RAM to load most of the necessary data beore you start playing. Upgrading to a 7200RPM drive would be helpful more in games with a lot of large, uncompressed textures (BF2 and Doom 3) than in other, more efficient games (HL2, Chaos Theory), but it would improve loading times all around.

You'll still notice the GPU as the primary restriction on performance, however.

but is a x600 really a restriction... I think the only restriction is trying to get the full 2 gigs of ram in there...

yeah xerxes, i work at best buy and that external battery thing is a piece...well you get the idea. Also, yeah...good luck getting 2 gigs in this thing. To open it up you have to take out all the screws on the bottom...and some screws under the LCD...now how the crap do you get to those...if anyone know please tell me :)

Angel you would know... I don't know if this is needed but I'm just curious about the product period... Is the Targus Tornado Notebook Chill Mat garbage as well...

Is the soundcard in the laptop so bad that you had to get a Sound Blaster Audigy Notebook Sound Card?

I work at Best Buy. The Performance Service Plan does cover replacement batteries. As far as I know, there is no limit to the amount of replacement batteries either. Please don't abuse the privilege though.

Thanks. I will replace it when I notice a problem and also right before the warranty ends.
