I wouldn't have a problem with the 7510GX's battery life just...sucking.
What seems to be the problem is no matter what settings I do, barring disabling wireless, my battery life doesn't really improve. At full bore the thing loses about 1% a minute; same with watching a DVD. With the screen all the way down, wireless disabled, and PowerPlay set to "optimal battery life" I only score maybe an extra 20 minutes to a half hour.
I HAVE noticed that when running on battery it still runs with all 16 PCI-Express lanes enabled (checked Everest), and I was under the (perhaps incorrect) impression that the whole point of PCI-Express was being able to dynamically reduce the number of lanes enabled to conserve power.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to prolong the battery life on this thing and possibly get it to switch off PCI-Express lanes while it's on the battery?

That's odd. Your notebook should switch to PCI-e x1 on battery power - my notebook does. What drivers are you using?
Get the latest Catalyst Mobility 5.9 drivers from driverheaven . Be sure to enable powerplay.
In addition, do you have AMD's powernow enabled?
Let me know if this helps!

AMD's PowerNow is enabled.
I've tried several different drivers and driver sets and none of them knock the PCI-Express bandwidth down to x1 on battery power, even the defaults that came with the notebook.
Something really exciting I discovered is that at stock clocks, my X600 overheats a little and artifacts (but only in tests). I dialed back the clock speeds on it a little and it seems to be a lot better off now. -
