Ill give the driver a try but 3.74 - 71 install but dont seem to work... maybe this revision will... As for doom, just install the catalyst drivers and run, doom is (quoting peter griffin) "FREAKIN SWEET" Its great watching my gateway spank my sisters overprice dell 6000... Ive got doom updated with the latest patch... and no I havent overclocked anything.... I almost busted a proverbial nutt when I used the BFG

Ok guys the Realtek driver will not work with the 7510GX... only the ATI's will after coming out of standby... Can anyone tell me what tells a driver to initialize/ startup...? This seems like something that if someone got on it they could fix

Except that I benchmarked the crap out of it for the review I posted. I'm sorry, Doom 3 can't magically go up in FPS when you raise the detail level.

Unfortunately its not the same at all. The 7510gx has screw under the monitor...look closely and you'll see em. If Someone knows a way around those that would be great.

i don't trust benchmarks no more... I got a 1550 on 3dfuturemark05(whateva) and i have a radeon 9800 pro 128mb and i run tons of games no issue maxed leveled...

That's actually pretty low for a 9800 Pro.

I'm not saying benchmarks in the sense that I ran 3DMark05 and reported my findings. I'm saying I ran benchmarks for UT2K4 and Doom 3, for the games I actually play.

HOWEVER, I did figure out how they got those performance improvements on Doom 3. If you reduce the visual quality settings in the control panel to high performance, you can in fact bump up two full resolutions. Very impressive. The hilarious thing being that Doom 3 still looks frigging amazing.

I was running at 640x480 High Quality; now I run it at 800x600 High Quality with BETTER FRAMERATES. I'm impressed. In fact, at the same framerates I was getting at 640x480 High Quality, I can run at 1024x768 Medium Quality. There's the tradeoff in visual quality, but I think it's worth it.

So did the 68xx. Trust me I had one and traded it in for this one. If you unscrew the bottom back screws, you just have to life the front panel off (the panel with the sound buttons and such). I usually try and get my thumb under the panel by applying presure where the F keys are, and then lift up. The first time you do it is kinda tuff feeling but it loosens up after awhile.

After you get that panel off the rest should be cake for taking it apart.

I took mine apart ok, but when I tried to install the additional gigabyte of ram the computer wouldn't boot past the Gateway screen...anyone have the same problem? So I had to put the 512 back in and close everything up
    By the way I have
    512 DDR333
    1024 DDR400

and I was trying to install the other DDR400 1024

by the way I still need that Gateway wallpaper if anyone has it

I know its low, could be the AthlonXP 1800+ slowing things up, but again that score doesn't reflect what and how I play....

I installed a 1 gig ddr400 on the bottom slot. The slot right on the bottom side of the latop. and it worked perfectly. I did not try installing it on the inside slot, too much work.

I will check my recovery disk when I get home and see if I can get the wallpaper.

Pulp I dont think he was reffering to the FPS magically jumping, just that it is possible to run doom at 1024x768 at a good frame rate w/ ultra graphics. (like im doing)

Not really that much work, it only took me 30 minutes....the hard part is shoving the ram in...its wierd it didn't work, Shouldn't this computer support 2Gb? Maybe they made it so you can't put 1gb in the 512 hidden slot...I don't know...
thanks for looking for the wallpaper!

I think that the laptop won't support your ddr400 ram. Thats why you can't get 2gb to work, because you are using ddr400. I ran into this problem with the Compaq r4000. The motherboard doesn't designate enough power to the ram chips to allow for 2gb of ddr400 to even run...and for some reason it wont down-clock either. The same thing could be here as well with the gateway 7510gx...who knows.

I too bought the 7510GX and am having trouble with drivers. I've managed to get almost everything working, except video.

Does any have or know where I can get the VGA drivers for this laptop? Not the video card drivers, but the vga drivers that come first. Thanks!

Has anyone had any problems with the built-in wireless card? I updated all the drivers and it still does not see my access point. I insert one of my extra linksys PCCMIA cards and the linksys card sees it just fine.

I believe everything is setup correctly and just doesn't work.

Also can anyone mail me a set of Recovery CD's. In that first hour after i got the 7510GX i formatted it all the way wiothout creating them and cannot get a copy from anyone. I'll download them or give you my mailing address but I would really like them.

Thanks everyone for your help and support !

I downloaded the 5.8 cat drivers for xp64 and xp32. I used the dhmod on xp32 and i get a bsod when windows boots with the new drivers. In x64 it doesn't use the drivers and defaults to the microsoft drivers.

Cyndane: Mine works just fine, and is pretty darn good! Sorry that yours is sucking it up.

alksolo: What driver set did you get, CCC or the original one? I konw if you get the CCC you install the drivers then install have to manually install the CCC software so they work properly.

stevetev: Go to my site which is one the first post of this thread *duh*
here is the link for you anyways. http://blackimperial.com/home/?page_id=13

When installing i had some initiall difficulties but i ended up getting everything to work. First off I had to un-install the wireless driver and remove all the releated files in the %systemroot%\System32 folder. After that I let the card say the drivers were currupted and then i re-pointed them to the right files..

Don't know how/why this happened but it took me a week to actually fix. I was about ready to re-ghost the machine.

Well by know you all know the bind I was in........found this forum and was able to get everything working. I just had to say thank you. Especially Optendo for hosting a site and to Alksolo for their contributions.

Gateway is irresponsible for the customers. One month ago, I bought a 7510GX laptop at Bestbuy SF, I found it was unreasonable that the hard drive was partitioned to 95G(C :) + 5G(D :), so I formatted into CDEF 4 drives.

Then What happened? I couldn't find the Drivers. I went to the Bestbuy and it charged me 80$. Gateway should give me a installation disk, but it didn't.

Gateway's service is worst even than that of some developing countires.

What version of windows are you using? if your running the regular 32bit windows the sounds works fine. x64 version of windows seems to be working for some but not all.

For those that have upgraded to XP64 have you noticed an increase in performance. Pretty much the only thing I do on my laptop is play World of Warcraft and I would upgrade to 64 if it would improve my performance. But there is no point if it won't. Does anyone know ?

I doubt you would notice anything if you upgraded to the x64. Stick with the 32 for compatibility. That 3700+ is a heck of a chip trust me! ;)

I went to ati website and gateway and all of their ATI drivers don't work with my 7510GX. Can someone post a link to the drivers for my video card and screen. Thanks. Also in my device manager it cant find the USB controller can someone point me to that also. Thanks soo much. I'm running XP Pro 32bit

Was wondering about touchpad drivers for the Synaptics ps/2 port touchpad. Touchpad works for me except in Firefox I cant seem to use the scroll part of the touchpad. This seems to work well enough in IE however. Ive seen the Synaptics website for drivers which they have but they recommend to use drivers from gateway. I might not have searched the gateway site well enough but the only drivers I could find from there seemed to be older than what came installed. Do the newest Synaptics drivers install and fuction as good or better than the original? Im at driver ver. 7.12.3.0. Ah guess I should mention im not trying to use a 64 os, just regular xp home 32. Thanks for any advice!

I know this thread is a few months old, but I just got off the line with Gateway's tech support for my 7110GX. They gave me a link to 64-bit sound drivers from Realtek's site that supposedly work.

I too have the "standby issue", so I finally broke down and contacted Gateway after scouring the net for drivers for this thing. All of the 7510GX drivers listed on optendo's site work for my 7110GX, so I'm assuming that both models use pretty much the same internal chipsets.

Anyways, the site they gave me is http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True but since I'm at work I haven't tried it yet. I'll try it tonight and post my results afterwards.
