    Hey all,

I've been having heat related issues with the x600 in my 7510GX and haven't been able to figure out why. Well the other day I downloaded Everest to see if I could monitor the gpu temps (which it appears the laptop doesn't have the sensors) but anyway, I found out that the gpu/mem on my card is running at 398 gpu/400 mem....I was told over in hardware it should be 405/295. I haven't tried to overlock or even touch the card...does anyone else know what their speeds are? Because if what I was told is right, then this could be the problem.

I will try and look at my speeds tonight if I get a change. looks like your memory is the only thing running higher than expected (100Mhz difference). Your going to get small differnces like what your showing for your GPU but It shouldn't be that off for the Memory. Again I will try and remember to take a look at mine tonight.

Sounds good. Does anyone else have any input?

Well I was just messing around with ATI Tray Tools and it says I'm running at 398/263. I would assume ATI's tool is right over Everest so maybe Everest is just wrong?....btw is ANYONE else having heat related issues with their x600 when playing games? I mean I can't play games for more than 45 min-1hr without it getting really hot. Lately, I have just been playing DOD:S .

    Hiya,

I'm prolly one of the few Canadians with a 7510 from BestBuy Canada, bought back this past August. I get a lot of heat when playing COD2, not so much playing Wolfenstein:ET. I have the Omega Drivers Vers 2.6.75a. Under ATI TrayTools/Hardware/Overclocking Settings there is an artifact tester. I noticed that at default 400/260 MHz I can't get one second of 0 artifacts, but downclocked to 375/250 the test can go 45 seconds without artifacts. Might have a difference in heat generation, I don't know. I have a Fujitsu 5400rpm 80GB drive in there that's running at 51C. Hope this helps

Thanks for your info Cookie Monster. I have the 2.6.75a drivers as well but when I go to the Overclock Settings, the "Scan for Artifacts" box is greyed out all I can do is the Bench test, which doesn't report any problems. The max allowed artifacts is set to 0 am I doing something wrong or is the bench the test? Mine doesn't get artifacts at 400/260 but seems to be more related to the heat generated over time...I lowered the settings to 320/208 and played DOD:S for about 45 minutes and it was blowing hot, but not as hot as when its on 400/260. I noticed a drop rate of 5 fps in DOD:S which isn't bad and it played just like 400/260. I guess I might just leave it like this, however suggestions and input are appreciated.

oh yeah, my harddrive is a 4200 Fujitsu 100 Gb running around 47-50 C

You're looking at the RAMDAC clock as 400MHz, not the RAM clock. 400/260 seems to be the stock speed for this GPU; what's interesting is that as far as I can tell, that's actually a bit higher than ATI's highest spec.

I have the exact same artifacting problem in ATI Tool, but I don't see it in games (except occasionally I get black splotches in Halo or F.E.A.R., but since I don't like bad games it doesn't really affect me).

I think the notebook does have some heat problems, and I've tried underclocking my GPU/memory. I do think that what may be a problem is that while the fan spins up for the processor, it doesn't spin up for the GPU, likely because the GPU doesn't have a thermal diode. I suspect this may be the reason why artifacting is so rare in games; the fan spins up when you're playing those because games stress the CPU and the GPU while ATI Tray Tools is just stressing the GPU.

Of course it's also close to 4am and I'm speculating, but there you go.

Oh, and I'm actually using the most recent drivers posted on Gateway's site of all places. They get 1710 in 3DMark05, and that makes them fine by me.

Good to know. I've updated all of my drivers to be current with the ones posted on Gateway's site as well. I think you might be right about the gpu not having a thermal diode and therefore the fan not increasing speed. Well I've been running games at underclocked 320/208 and its working for now *fingers crossed* so unless anyone has input, I figure I'll stick with what works.
