Hey my work will be purchasing a gateway 7510GX for me (both buisness and personal use).. im a bit of a gamer (basically only wow and other online rpgs)...

anyone done any upgrades in general, im curious on whats working out there?!

also i noticed the ram is PC2700?? will the mobo handle better ram?
and the cpu is an Athlon mobile 3700 (2.4 ghz i believe) .. can i change it to a Turion MT-40 (2.2 ghz i think).. and will that make a difference in battery life or performance if one can change the cpu @ all on this notebook?

any other suggestions (OS, driver upgrades, etc..) yall can recommend, that would rock!!

Thanks in advance guys : )

Faster hard drive will help system performance.

Anyone tried upgrading the battery? This battery life makes me sad. Pretty much a waste for flying and watching a full movie.

I think they only make one battery for the 7510.

Although changing the processor to a Turion might not be possible, you can most probably replace the mobile 3700+ with the newly released mobile 4000+(2.6GHz, 1MB L2 cache).

If the performance ceiling on the San Diego core is that high, you can likely just overclock the Athlon 64 in the 7510GX.

    Of course...

It's not really worth it for just 200MHz. ;)

Assuming the chip isn't soldered in, you probably can.

    But again: not worth it.

Also assuming that they are the same socket. the 7510gx uses the 754 and Ii think the 4000+ is a 939 unless they made a 754 4000+.............that would be awsome. As for battery life I can get 2:30 out of mine......do you need more then that? and can you expect more from the hardware thats in it? yes its a mobile athlon but its no centrino, or turion for that matter :p just turn down the screen lighting and in the power options properties (in the control panel) just set it to laptop.

Also I have read that the video card is modular so it can be upgraded.....I've yet to venture into opening it up to see for my self but once i do ill post here weather or not it is. I would reall like to put an x800 in it. Then it would really be something to be proud of.

    Have fun :D

    Modular, upgradeable video card?

Now this is something worth investigating.

For what it's worth, though, the 4000+ is going to be socket 754. If it were 939, they wouldn't have needed the bump in speed. Besides, every other Mobile Athlon 64 is 754; if it were 939 they'd hype the crap out of it having dual-channel memory.

Heh yeah. I just opend mine up and it doesnt have the axiom modular design ATi says it has(must just be compatible with it). I did find out that the second stick of ram isnt soldered on, its just on the inside so you would have to pull it apart to get to it, so it should be able to take 2 gig's unless gateway did a stupid thing and made the bios only take 1.5 gig's. Maybe they just thought we where too stupid to open up the laptop to get to the other stick.....oh well :p

    Have fun :D

    I REMAIN UNCONVINCED

...but I'm not surprised the X600 isn't actually an AXIOM part. Is the GPU card actually soldered to the motherboard, though, or is there a connector of some kind between the GPU card and the motherboard?

The GPU IS soldered but the CPU is NOT so if AMD releses a new CPU for it and if the bios supports it and if the heatsink/fan can handle the heat dispertion lol.....pulp said that the 4000+ is socket 754 but sence the 3700+ in it already has 1 mb cache I dont see what your gaining cause they are both clocked at 2.4GHz..........oh well....the x600 is still a good card thought i cant seem to get the modded ati drivers or the omega drivers to work with everquest2 without locking the system up......any ideas???

    Have fun :D

The Mobile Athlon 64 4000+ is clocked at 2.6 GHz. That's the difference. 200 whole MHz. "Woo."
