OK....enough already!....I have read and read and read post after post....is it better than the 8510qz?.....the hinges, the video card ram,the sound, the screen, the bench marks....does it run doom 3?....64 bit?....
Bottom line folks.....had them both, 8510gz.....7510gx is faster...and no need to buy memory it has 1 gig...answer: no brainer....cheaper,faster, no need to upgrade anything....you want to spend money....buy a faster hard drive, audigy noteboook. The hinges....is this not a question of usage?...you open and close it alot, you use it roughly, you transport the beast.....vs. stays home open and downloading?...again no brainer....depends on the user....some of you will have issues with various items on the machine, some of us won't.
64 bit?.....why bother....you are going to run it with 32 bit appz....so what the point....when it becomes mainstream...you will be ready...period....Centrino's won't!
Sound...is it crappy?...well YEAH, have you seen SOUNDBLASTERS built into any laptops.....again no brainer....spend the same money you did 2 years ago and buy the audigy notebook zs for 82.00 online. Yes it makes a difference headphones or speakers....and YES it will output through you laptop speakers with a slight delay. But if you are really worried about using your laptop speakers....then why bother buying an audigy unless you plan on using it with a better output device....again no brainer. Video mem?....yeah it is hyper....is it slower than the 8510 w/64 meg....depends on the game....bottom line. are we running games at desktop resolution with all the eyecandy turned on?...(could we with that dumb 1920 rez we see out there?)NO, did we expect to when we purchased this machine (it scales perfectly w/1024)...NO we knew how much the DELL'S were and the Q's from toshiba and the falcons and overly priced centrino, clocked downed crap was out there and said hey an athlon with 128video, a gig of ram, a dvd-burner, gorgeous screen, and under 1300 bucks at bestbuy and you get 40.00 back (reward program). AND the only thing that needs upgrading is a faster rpm hard drive...and i get to enclose the 100 gig?.....hell yeah....my laptop won't degrade in price as much as that dell will in 3 months. And i can still wait until the pci-e video nonsense settles.
Look folks...it will run anything out there right now....if you are gaming with eyecandy turned up.....you WILL be comfy at home and plugged in...so who cares about the battery....if you are on a bus to Canada....will it last to watch 2 dvd's no did you buy the athlon to watch movies?.....Let's not get caught up in things we do once in a blue moon and harp on the machine's shortcoming. It is positively the best blend of performance/PRICE....w/built in stock options you can buy. Really 1249.00?...come on people did you really want to spend 2000.00 on the HP/DELL? Hell this thing is faster than what most of us have on their desks. Folks be happy with the 7510gx....there are slower machines that cost more....but there are no faster machines that costs less.
PS..
I run.......
doom 3 800x600
unreal desktop resolution folks!
farcry: 1024x768
dungeon siege 2: 1024x768.....desktop res is not avail....but it would run if it were.
perimeter: desktop res 1280x800
ground control 2 1024x768
act of war 1024x768
Quake 3 1024x768 full eyecandy 92FPS
Most eyecandy is on...in particular UNREAL Wow 70-85 FPS
I have no issues...after i re-installed with xp pro, omega drivers,7200 spin hd,audigy notebook ZS(drivers only no creative crap) Trust me on this one folks...install the drivers and the performance thing only..
Do not wish to offend anyone, but i have been reading this thread for a while, before and after my purchase....special thanks to Black Imperial's site....he knows the value of this machine. thanks all!!!

Dustin Sklavos Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Breathe, man, breathe.
Welcome to the club. The opinion of Gateway themselves doesn't seem to be great or terrible, but the 7510GX (and the 74xx series that came before it) is held in high esteem and rightfully so, as probably the biggest bargain you can find.
The price far outweighs the drawbacks of the machine. But the battery life is, unfortunately, an issue. I use the notebook in class and have to fight tooth and nail to keep it going for two hours. It can be done with some smart management, but it's a struggle I'd've liked to avoid.
Oh, and yeah, the Unreal Tournament 2004 performance is, in a word, nuts. -
LOL....sorry about the rant, just got tired of reading and wanted to drop my 2 bits...lol....thought about either buying a spare battery for myself or possibly one of those coolpad/battery things....a little pricey but I was figuring out the voltage/battery....looks like you could 5 hours at full throttle. Not bad....but expensive.

I would love if someone gave this a try with this laptop and let us know how long it last.

Five hours of extra power to let your notebook do more on the go. Economical power system can also be expanded to last even longer.
* Long battery run times up to 5 hours
* Enough power to support today's demanding 90- and 120-watt notebooks
* High-performance Saphion lithium-ion technology is environmentally friendly, with no memory effect -
Hey! that's the thing I was talking about.....looks promising. I rarely take the beast out, so for me it is not a "must have"item. Please post review if anyone has tried it.

Yeah, that battery thing is a piece of crap. Its heavy and awkward. I used to work at Best Buy (quit about 2 weeks ago) and all the employees agreed that it's a piece...but they won't tell a customer that because its about $75 markup...which is pretty nice for them.
7510GX is it money well spent? Yes!
