In comparing my Gateway 7510 gx to my Dell desktop's LCD monitor, I must say that the Dell's screen looks a whole lot better. The settings for the Dell are also factory with an ATI Radeon X300 video card and 17" LCD Monitor. Pictures look ok on the 7510gx they just don't look as good as the Dell. Are there any others out there that work with digital media and have been able to get outstanding performance with their notebook's monitor? Has anyone purchased monitor calibration software and if so did it help?

I've been trying to calibrate my 7508gx with some success.

I tried using the Monaco Optix colorimeter (I have the older one - not the XR), but I ran into problems using the device in conjunction with the contrast/brightness in the ATI control panel. It wouldn't create a proper profile for me & kept giving me errors.

I ended up using the Adobe Gamma control panel that came with Photoshop & tweaking the brightness with ATI. It seems to be pretty close.

Now I'm looking for the detailed specifications of the LCD panel so I can get a more exact color profile.

If you want, I can give you the numbers I came up with to get you "in the ballpark".
