I just bought the 7510gx this past weekend, I have a few questions if anyone could address them.

    1) Does the created recovery DVD/CD contain ALL drivers required to do a fresh install of Windows.

    2) Is there anyway to obtain the windows copy that came with the notebook, as I see it now, if I reinstall with my own windows, the one that came with the notebook is gone forever. Or does the recovery DVD contain the windows on it?

    3) Has anyone attempted to install linux on this notebook, how was driver compatibility?

    4) I downloaded the newest ATI drivers from the ati.com, however the 5.7 mobility catalyst says it doesn't support my current card. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27 Only the x700 and x800 are indicated as supported. Could someone direct me to the correct link for the drivers.

    5) Has anyone else experienced the annoyingly noisy fan? It sounds like a sputtering hard drive.

Thanks for the answers anyone can give.

Edit: RUN THE SYSTEM RESTORE CD OR DVD CREATION SOFTWARE

Try using the omega drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/ . These are modded ATI drivers for mobility cards. ATI is suppose to release Drivers for all their mobility cards in the future. :gateway:

You can also download a program, I believe it's called DHMODTOOL. This will have you extract the new catalyst from the catalyst installation. Then it will ask you to point to the ati/support folder...it will make a quick change to the install file and bam...you got catalyst 5.7 working on your x600. I got an aditional 200 3dmarks in 3dmark05 just from 5.7 drivers...they sure are nice. :)

hey, I just noticed this post, and the lack of anyone saying anything about linux... I put suse 9.3 on it... I need to get the integrated sound working, and the integrated broadcom wireless, but otherwise, it's humming along... the ethernet works just fine...

I'm also using suse in 64bit mode... fwiw.

I'm kind of new to linux, but if you have any questions, feel free to bug me.

    cheers.

    Good luck with that.

Even the Windows XP sound drivers are craptacular. :|

agreed, the onboard sound is absolutely the weak link... and gateway are the ones holding this show up... I broke down and got an audigy notebook for my 7510... works with my internal speakers as well as my 5.1 logitechs, low latency, and so far no big issues... still no linux or xp64, but I think it's far more likely that we'll see those drivers for the creative card than our odd ball conexant sound.

small headaches to deal with at the end of the day for a 1300.00 laptop with this much juice. with the audigy, it's a 1400.00 laptop. I can handle it.

The sound quality leaves something to be desired - I know mine actually cracks every so often, and anything without perfectly written sound code sounds garbled.

The recovery CD contains most of the drivers you need, but all the drivers can be found here here.

I personally can not notice a sound problem. Sounds fine to me, I DON'T get any of the sound cracks like you guys are saying.

I haven't tested the recovery cd I made but i was abe to extract the contents from it and found all the drivers to be there either under the drv folder or app folder in the i386 folder. After I made the recovery cd i wiped it and installed xp pro on it and also have xp x64 dual booted on it. The only problem with x64 is the sound. I have to go to stand by to make it work. There is a post some where that has all the drivers you need.

    Have fun :D

I have the winxp pro cd too and was going to wipe out the HD until i couldn't figure out the driver problem. I just tried to uninstall everything i hated and installed what i liked.. then im bout to upgrade to XP Pro. Although since i made those recovery cds im ok right? I wanna do a clean install (dunno why really)... and you said that all the drivers are within the recovery cds/that other post and no problems yet? I may do that later...

IS the D drive being used? It looked like a backup partition or something.

yep :) the only thing is that the only driver thats stable 100% for the video card is the ones from gateway. \i386\Apps\App03483 thats where the drivers are for it though :) The D: drive is used for the restory cd creation so if your sure you have a good copy you can just delete that partion.

    Have fun :D
