I was wondering if someone else with a 7510gx can check the temp of their hard drive with Mobile Meter or some such prog. I was playing a little Soldier of Fortune earlier, but for the last hour have just been surfing the web, and the temp has been hovering between 56-60C (this is on AC power). Room temperature is close to 80F. Is that excessively warm considering? Would a chill mat help much?

Never mind. Yesterday's readings were apparently a fluke, or perhaps related to the surface the laptop was resting on. Temp today has been in the mid to upper 40s C even after some heavy use. I'll probably look into a laptop cooler at some point but won't worry too much about it in the meantime.

I've had my 7426GX about a year now and have had 2 mysterious crashes after the fan went on high while doing several things at once (including HDD usage). By monitoring the usage using task Manager, I note that the AMD chip is so fast responding that it puts big spikes of CPU usage rather than smoothing them out over time. I think I could adjust Windows System manager for less performance and more application to cut down on the spiking but it seldom has occurred. Right now the laptop is on my lap against naked skin (more than you wanted to know...below my bermudas, of course) which indicates the laptop temperature is about 80 deg. F. My Compaq ran much hotter than this (almost burned myself after I got SP2 installed) . I have been tinkering with the tasks, though and found out if I shut off AOL I could run less than 280 Mbytes in taskmanager. I also am obsessed (almost) with cleaning my files out with wisk broom and CCRAP after each bout with the internet...one has to watch what is being thrown at you there in terms of increased load. I have seen my task memory creep from around 300 to almost 400 mbytes during an internet session...to say nothing of the tasks that sneak in (like flash and Qtime) into your startup area, again increasing your load).
