So far I love my 7510gx, however Im having problems with it.

Problem #1 Anytime I play a DVD the PowerPlay settings HAVE to be set to Balanced or Optimal Battery Life. If it is set to Optimal Performance, there is snow (like on your TV) on the PowerDVD and Windows Media Player window.

Best Buy's "Geek Squad" said, "On ATi's site it says that the x600 is not recomended to play DVD's on the Optimal Performance setting. Optimal Performance is for playing games." I have yet to find anything on ATi's website that would confirm what they said.

I really don't believe them now because my cousin's 7508gx plays DVDs fine on Optimal Performance. I don't really play any games, so I I figured screw it I will just leave it on the balanced setting and go on with my life. A few days later we approach:

Problem #2 I go to watch a burned DVD movie, It plays like the DVD is scratched. Check the DVD, it's fine. I get a brand new DVD (The Longest Yard to be exact), it does the same thing. Tried about 10 DVDs, all the same problem. I had a couple of movies that I copied to the harddrive when I first got the laptop, they play fine. I burned a couple DVDs and CDs a week or so ago, however I have not since this problem started. So I'm not sure if I have a problem burning. (Im out of town right now, hence no blank DVD+R)

I don't believe these problems are related because when I play a DVD off the harddrive I still have to have the PowerPlay setting on Balanced or Optimal Battery Life.

I am going to try installing Omega x600 Mobility Video Drivers to see if that will fix the problem with PowerPlay.

(FYI: I have TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A DVD Burner, and of course ATi Mobility Radion x600 Video card.)

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks for the help!

That is crazy, I play dvd's all the time on mine and it doesn't do that. Powerplay is set to optimal performance when plugged in and optimal battery life when not. Maybe the video card has a defect to it or possibly the dvd player has issues with the video card set a full performance. I am not much of a help but that is what I would think is hte problem.

I had this problem even skipping with my old HP pavillion zd7260us, it was doing it all the time so I brought it back and had service plan and if it is within 14 days of purchase they will replace computer with better DVD(which is what they did for me) but hopefully u got the service plan so they can send it out at least to be fixe dand if u did send it out to be fixed most likely even if it is not the DVD rom then they will find what the problem is which in this case would be the video card and they will still fix it and all will go well...

Yeah, I figured I would have to take it back. I just was in hopes that this might be a common problem with a quick fix. should have known better. Thanks for your help!
