i am trying to figure out 2 things about this notebook
the first thing is does this laptop contain a MXM gfx card and if so is it the type that can be swapped for a better one.
Also ive checked and havent be able to come up with any web sites that sell MXM gfx cards. does anyone know of one.
considering its the end of the year. it seems worth waiting for the I7 laptops to come out. Considering iam looking to spend (once saved up) 4k on a gaming rig it seems to be a better idea just to get a desktop and save myself the hassle i ve just always like the idea of portable gaming (17 in laptops are not heavy unless people are exercise deprived )

No GPU is not MXM even if it was it would be better to just get a good one off the bat than spend tons of money upgrading. they are super expensive to upgrade very limited and even harder to come by usually.
Are you talking about i7 (wont' be in a notebook for quite some time, we just got quads) or 17"?
With 4K you can get the worlds awesomest laptop or desktop but the desktop will out perform the laptop by quite a margin... but laptops are super fun! -
Gateways have the GPU soldered onto the motherboard. There were a couple of images of the P7811FX's motherboard.
MXM-modules are usually sold by spare part dealers of Clevo, Acer, Asus, Zepto, etc or www.mxm-upgrade.com or ebay. -
LOL with 4k you can buy the Sager 9262.
Dual SLI 9800m GTX's
Quad Core 3.2 GHZ QX9750
BLu Ray Burner
1920 1200P Display
8GB Ram
500GB HDD
LOL
And Considering a 9800m GTX is like a desktop 9800 GT, and a desktop processor. Your in for every game maxed out 1200P for a while buddy. -

I'd go for a desktop hands down, unless you really...really...really... need a laptop.
The reason I went with the 7811 is that it had good performance and it was portable (since I had just started college i needed the laptop)
Or...
You can do this.

They have a very good desktop for just under 2k (you buy parts and self assemble, and remove the monitor they have included and it is around 1700)
2.5k by 1.6k resolution monitors (30 in ish) go for around 1k
There is 3k, now you can 1k to buy yourself a decent laptop (refurb 7811 even) and have a amazing desktop. Or you could upgrade some parts in the desktop. -
