So I recently got my 7801u as a replacement for my 6831 and I'm totally digging the upgrades. Everything is just fine except that I hear one of the fans (pretty sure it's the gpu) come on super loud for 1 second and going off. It would repeat every few minutes. I believe the temp rises to 50C and then the fans come on for a second, then the temp goes down to low 40s, and it'd repeat.

Is this normal with other 7801/7811 laptops? Do I need to do some bios update or something to get the fans to be more consistent? I rather have the fans on a low consistent hum than silent.....WHEEEEEE.....silent. And I prefer having this all done without installing extra software. However if installing an additional software is required, I don't have much choice and I'm open for suggestions.

Err, so the fan issue doesn't bother you guys? No way to make the temps more consistent? Pretty sure putting AS5 on the gpu won't make a difference since it'll do the same thing except maybe a slightly longer interval.

Make sure you prop up the back a little, that helps the temp, I use a notebook cooler and the fan still cycles frequently

Yeap, back has been propped since day 1. Someone suggested updating the bios but I did that and the fans are still acting the same. But I got used to it so it's ok.

Im pretty sure its because of some sort of dynamic fan settings thats built in. I remember something similar on ATItool when i was using it.

    It was like...
0C-49C: Keep fan on 27% speed
50C-60C: Blast fan up to 60%
    61C-75C: Increase to 75%

Well, you get the idea ;)

I suggest cleaning up the GPU exhaust vents to cool it down a bit.
