Hi! My 7805 arrived in the mail today, and is giving me a slight fit as far as start-ups go. As soon as I had it out of the box and running, I ran PCDecrapifier then installed all Windows updates. I also updated the display driver.

My problem is this: from shut down to useable desktop takes almost 10 minutes. After the Windows OS loading meter screen, the display goes completely black for a few minutes then moves to the log-on screen. Any suggestions? Hard drive issue? Am I missing any important driver updates? I checked Gateway's websit for driver updates and can not fin support for the 7805; just 7811 and 7801.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

    First, the Gateway support for the 7800 series - h e r e - include the 7805u.

Did it take that long to boot up the first time?

Thanks very much. I was just curious - seeing the dates on those, are they confirmed to be the most up-to-date drivers?

Well, every boot thus far has had the Windows updater running. I attributed any slowness to that. But on my first genuine reboot, I noticed that it was loading much slower than its hardware should allow it.

As far as startup goes, nothing is enabled which shouldn't be. :\

You can follow this thread but also do these things

Are you wanting to dual boot? if not go to Start Menu right click on my computer go to properties which should be system properties. After that look for a tab called Advance than look for start up and recovery and click settings.
Check both "Time to display list of operating systems and Time to display recovery option when needed are" than change the time to something like 5 secs I wouldnt go below 2 secs on both though.

These two things are mostly for multiple operating systems and lots of adding and subtracting of programs.

As for windows services running check this out:

Problem resolved! The culprit seemed to be a faulty driver. Much appreciated.
