Well a while back I had problems with my laptop BSOD'ing. It was the nvlddmkm.sys error that happened when i played games or video through a media player, sometimes streaming to. Well since then I had sent it into gateway with a DETAILED list of explanations of problems, attempts to fix it, and things I would like fixed. However, this list was blatantly ignored and all they did was install a gateway factory OS (Didnt even finish BTW) and sent it back. Now, instead of BSOD'ing it freezes for a minute, then comes back saying "your driver nvlddmkm has stopped working and has restarted itself." Be it this is the exact same problem as before, without the BSOD, what can I do to actually get gateway to FIX my problem.. I suspect some fault in my GPU, maybe mobo. Everytime I call I get the same response, and someone who speaks extremely bad english to the point where i end up hanging up in frustration. Also, the online support was horrible, they always lead back to having my BUY gateway windows restore discs... THANKS!

If it is a problem which I think it is also due to the error I believe that deals with the GPU. Just try talking to nVidia.

Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.
Your computer should now work properly.
You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed.

I believe its an error due to a faulty GPU, and if thats the case it will be Gateways problem when it comes to fixing it cause im still under the 1 year warranty.. Its not a driver issue, i have tried practically all of them. Besides, Nvidia cant really do anything, the GPU is soldered to the board. Thanks anyways.

Did you try the fix I posted below that sorry if the line confused you

I had the EXACT same problem (Freeze then that error) when I was using the DOX 185.20 driver. After changing to the 182.46 driver I haven't had that problem since.
Your problem could of course be different, but when I had that exact problem, it was the video driver. -
Lol, Global you tried helping me when i posted my original problem. Nothing seemed to work... I tried several drivers, including ALL Dox, and most other drivers, including really old ones. and @JV, yes I have tried that SEVERAL times. I have also sent in my laptop once, where they wiped my hard drive and sent it back with new windows, where i updated everything to newest available, and it still did same thing (only driver RESET itself, causing lag and sometimes my games to crash, but no BSOD). How do I make gateway actually GIVE a crap about my laptop, other then doing what i told them WONT work. Before I sent it in, i did email support, and told them ive tried 5 different OS's and they just told me install gateway OS, and on the phone i told her the OS was not the problem, so she said send it in where all they did was INSTALL gateway OS...

That should help you -
if you call gateway and keep mentioning bad GPU then they should just replace that when you send it back..you have to get them to focus, same thing with Dell, if you spell out everything you've done you should get someone that says, ok we'll replace the GPU. Just keep repeating it's not a software problem.

@JV - I have no clue how to perform those fixes, or what those fixes actually mean in that nvidia link. I dont think that is the problem however. I have also had windows XP on here, with the same error under a different name (nvldisp_4 or something of that nature), so it leads me back to faulty GPU. If you could explain how to do those 4 steps he listed, I would gladly do them.

Tried It And Failed.
Edit: Forum Doesnt Let You Use All Caps? Lame... -
Can you give me exact error name?

Bold works!
