So i had a SLIGHT spill on the backside of my 7805 right above the battery bay. My GF was using the laptop when i went to pick up a cup off the table, the cup hence slipped out of my hand and a little splashed up and went onto it right under the LCD hinge spot and a little ended up on media bar. I thinksome might of gone into the battery bay area, not confirmed though. She lifted it up pretty instantly and i immediately turned it off so its not like it instantly fried anything. I cleaned up everything i could on the outside with a damp paper towel so it wouldnt be sticky and then i opened it up to see if anything was wet/discolored. I didnt notice anything except, http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1915/06mediabarremoval4.jpg that the part behind the media bar ribbon cable seemed to have like a blotchy discoloration (Stole that pic from the disassemble thread). Like some of it was a darker grey, but i dunno if thats normal wear and tear. SO to the issue at hand, after i checked everything, i tried to start it up. It turned onto the first screen, then shut off. I left it for a bit thinking something got wet that shouldnt of, and turned it on later and it worked! for a minute. I was messing around on the desktop, started firefox, browsed for a good 2 minutes and then all my programs quit and it shut itself down. I wasnt sure why it did this at first, but i then tried to turn it back on and it powered on, powered off, powered on, then powered off again. Now thats all it is doing. Any advice? I couldnt see any water damage myself, and I have reported issues to gateway about possibilty of a faulty GPU for the past 6 months, and even sent it in once and they sent it back unfixed. I was thinking maybe if i pushed enough I could get them to replace it with a new unit considering they blatantly ignored me last time i sent it in. I remember reading a thread about dell sending someone a replacement laptop, and trusted them to send back the faulty one (im aware that the thread involved alot of issues on the laptop being sold and then the orig owner didnt return the other laptop or something) and was wondering if gateway has ever done that with anyone here? I would rather have a guaranteed laptop replacement then them trying to fix it then sending it back completely unfixed again. Also, whats the chances of them finding some kind of water damage signs that i missed? I looked pretty thoroughly i think.
