My 7805u built-in microphone stopped working. I'm trying to troubleshoot.

If somebody else with a 7805u could right-click on your speaker icon in the taskbar, select "Recording Devices", and post a screenshot of that box, it would help me out.

    thanks-
    Judd

disable that microphone device and the proper one will show up, If you had updated bios sometimes you need to re-install the smart-audio drivers too....

Sorry, your suggestion did not make the internal microphone appear, even after a reboot.

Here is what my Recording Devices panel looks like now. Little difference.

    Thanks

anyone please post their screen shot

Try enabling it again and see if it works.
If not, Right click on the white part (Not one of the icons, the white blank spot under the both of them) And make sure both Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices, are both checked off.

I had the same problem on my 7811, and it turned out to be a driver problem. I got the drivers off of the support section of Gateway's website.

Can anyone post an actual screen shot of a working 7805u? I don't need advice, just a screen shot.

    thanks

@Jakamo: Right click your recording devices and show disabled devices on your P-7811FX. Internal AUX Jack will show up too. Although it will show unplugged even if you enable it so I don't know if it's really there or a driver issue.

I have no clue then since it shows up for me from both fresh boot and restart. Weird thing though on a fresh boot my speakers say 2-Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 but then if I restart my comp, the "2" disappears. Everything works fine, I just thought it to be odd, heh. Dunno if it matters but I've done a fresh install of Vista Home Premium then re-loaded the stock drivers from Gateway Recovery.
