7805u is a great machine except for its cpu. I'm thinking about to upgrade its cpu recently but have no idea how to do it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Do I need to buy specific cpu that just for laptop or all cpu works?

I'm gonna spend about 100 bucks on it.

    Thanks

    Hello and welcome here.

Sorry to disappoint, but CPU is actually one of the most expensive components in a computer. Getting a better processor that can yield a performance bonus will cost above $200-$300.

And much of games are GPU limited anyways...

Even a P8700 would run 200 or better. If your pocket is burning a hole though get a matching drive and set a Raid0. For the money it is the only real upgrade you will accomplish other than a cooling pad...........

You're better off upgrading to a SSD from a performance perspective.

Yeah the 7805 is a good machine, out of curiosity why do you find your CPU to be weak? Are you doing alot of number crunching? Or is it bottle-necking you in games?

Its really a quite adequate CPU and should do fine for just about anything you are wanting to run, but there are better CPU's. The t9800/t9900/p9700/x9100 are the top end CPU's for this generation, but it appears the t9600 is about the best band for your buck CPU of this generation for the 78xx machines.

Unfortunately all of them are going to go well beyond your budget. For your 100 dollar limit, about the only think you can do would be getting another hard drive (or something similar that isn't going to boost performance that much, but may add to the overall enjoyment of your experience)

Yep. Went with T9600 myself. Pretty nice and pretty cheap now. Can do the 9900/9700 or X9100. but they cost too much for me. Wanted that Quad......!!!!
