I got a sample of ICD7 in the mail today so I did some stress tests, recorded the temps, and got ready to apply the thermal compound. I took the battery out, held down the power button for a few seconds, took the back off, and got ready to unscrew the heatsink. Screw #5 came out without a problem. Screw #3 came off after some work. But the rest won't budge, and I don't want to use any more force. I tried a PH00 screwdriver (which worked to get the back and 2 screws off) but it seems like it's a little too small. I tried one a little bigger, and I have the same problem. The next biggest one I have is a PH2, which is too big. How do I loosen the screws without ruining everything?

Try putting all the screws back in and easing each screw (not taking them out 1 by 1) until they all come out so the pressure of the heatsink is evened out until it comes off..... might be something to consider

Sorry, I should have rephrased what I said. They won't budge at all. None of the screws ever left the heatsink. #5 and #3 were loosened, but it made no difference for the rest. The ones surrounding the CPU (except for #3) all won't budge. Different screwdrivers aren't making a difference, and I'm not sure what to do.

The screws aren't stripped, and this is my first time even opening up this laptop. I have a Home Depot near me, but I would rather cross the street to the new Lowes :p

I might have to take a trip there and see what they have.

I usually find that these type of tips are cheap and fit very well , and come in assorted sizes.

As for actually taking out screws, you dont want to use constant turning. I was a mechanic for many years and using constant power just stripped things. If you use a rapid jerking motions yet smooth that should work. Jerking motion while being safe should accomplish things. Its how impact tools work.

If this isnt what your asking for than just laugh.........

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Went out, bought a Husky 8-in-1 Precision Screwdriver Set and it worked first try. Too bad I don't have the time to go and replace the stock compound with ICD7 until later tonight.
