Hi,
I've had this laptop for over a year and have had intermittent wireless connection drops and from what I've found on Google it seems to be related to the internal Intel 5100 AGN card. I've tried different routers without any difference, I've tried various combinations of settings without any luck. Currently I'm using WPA2-Personal, 20Mhz width, SSID broadcast, AES encryption and when it's connected my speeds seem fine, but it's either all or nothing. Does anyone else have trouble with keeping a constant connection? Has anyone replaced the wireless card with a different card? Thanks!

How far is the wireless access point ? Do you have cordless phones or microwave oven close to your WAP ? Or say metal objects between your laptop and the WAP ? These are some overlooked reasons too. Mine works perfectly to date.

I put an Apple B/G/N card in my P7805u.
Works great. It was originally called "Airport Extreme Update Kit for Mac Pro." -
I used to have that problem until I upgraded my wireless drivers to use Atheros instead of the crappy stock crap they gave us...
-
Uh, that makes no sense abr71310.
You _CAN'T_ use Atheros drivers for an Intel Wireless card.
That's like trying to use Soundblaster drivers on my Realtek Audio. -
Well I'm not sure how the heck it works, but I've never lost a connection after changing clients for the wireless card...
It's probably not a direct connection to the card as it seems like a pretty sketch 3rd party version...
But meh, it works for me, so I'm keeping it. -
I've got a an Asus RT-N16 and I also used a WRT54GL, both with DD-WRT and I've had the same issue with both, so I'm fairly certain it's the wireless card and not the router or other limiting factors. I'm really to the point that I want to replace the card, sometimes it will drop the connection for 30+ minutes... I can try disabling/enabling the card, but nothing seems to help, it seems to reconnect at its leisure.

Any Apple store (physical) will sell them to you if you go in knowing what to ask for.
I personally used part # MB988Z/A entitled "Airport Extreme Wireless Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro"
You might want to verify whether your P7805u uses the 3 lead antenna or the 2 lead. I'm pretty sure it will still work if you have the 3 lead, but it's nice knowing before hand.
It cost me $50 USD at my local Apple store about 8 months ago. They go for like $25 on eBay if you are more patient. -
Hi all,
I am having a similar problem. I have a Gateway MC7801U, running Vista 64 bit, with an Intel 5100 network card. I have a wireless network set up with a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router. I had no problems connecting to the internet via the router until last week. The router had been unplugged, and when I plugged it back in, I could not connect to the internet for more than a few minutes. My laptop would connect to the network and the internet, and would run painfully slow. Then it would disconnect after about a minute and repeat. I have an Xbox 360 that wirelessly connects to the same network, which continued to work and did not slow down. I reset the router and reinstalled the software, set up a new network, new name, new password, etc. I set the Xbox back up and it had no problems with the new network. My laptop still has the same issues. It connects, works slow for about a minute, and can't usually open a single webpage, disconnects, and repeats. When it's connected, the speed is about 1.0 Mbps. The Xbox 360 does not disconnect, has blazing speed, and reads the network fine. The desktop PC and cable modem work fine, and the internet flows freely without problems. I suspect the problem has to be with the laptop, is there any suggestions anyone can recommend? -
Mine is rock solid except if the microwave is running. I use the auto setting for 2.4 and 5.2 not the 20 only. I however am never more than 2 walls and 75ft from the router. I always see a minimum of 4 bars and usually 5 bars.
I use a TrendNet router and have been happy with it since they day I got it. I had a Linksys but wanted Draftn and this was the way I went........... -

I frequently (and have always) "time out" when trying to load web pages with Firefox. Today I got an addon that auto-hits "try again" but if anyone knows a real solution or can point out the problem I would be grateful.

I also had this problem a few weeks ago but was fixed when i updated my win 7 ultimate. But recently it started dropping connections again, sometimes it would get fixed by disabling and enabling it on the device manager OR by the automatic network fix. I also tried updating to service pack 1 but still it would at least fu*k up once a day...
Whats a good replacement wifi card for the 5100 agn? good also means just plug and play w/o any other mods like antenna, etc.
