So I came across one of the good 1900xwhatever screens purely by chance (and free so who can beat that) and I put it in my machine. Everything works fine except that now I'm not able to adjust the screen brightness. Well I can use the fn+f8 to toggle between 2 settings, it started out as 3 but now when I hit the key the 1st and 2nd time the screen stays the same and gets bright on the third keystroke. The toggle brightness keys on the arrows don't do a thing and there is no longer a way to do it via windows software.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I have looked around a bit but am having no luck with what to do to fix it (if it can be fixed, maybe the screen is going ?)

    Thanks again!

What happened was I bought a 7805u with a bad mobo because I needed the case for mine. I paid a hundred bucks for it and was just going to sell the spare parts to recoup my money. It literally came with everything, ram, battery, charger, all the paperwork and original box. The case looks brand new with no scratches etc. The guy I talked to said he pretty much never moved it from his desk and wasn't willing to take the time to part it out. Anyway, when I took a closer look at the screen it just happened to be the better version that was shipped randomly. So it was "free" in the sense that it was like a bonus to what I really wanted (the case). Anyway, I'm pretty sure the screen was in working order.

I looked at a few of those programs that "dim" your screen but it seems all they are really doing is changing the gamma and/or color settings which sucks.

Can you tell me if there are any parts that should be changed when the screen is upgraded? (Inverter or something) I figured that the screen could just be plugged in and used.

none I know of. I imagine you just left the entire screen pannel alone and just plugged the cables to the main board where required. Others that have put in the new pannels stated all was good right from the get go. This is why I suggest redoing the connections incase one or more are not connecting properly..............
