i have this gpu fan noise everytime the fan stops. its a high frequency type noise and gets worse when the graphics card gets hot. the fan will do its blow and stop blow and stop thing and every time the fan stops the noise is there. i've tried flashing my bios to .08 .10 and .12 with no success. just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and would like to know how you've dealt with it.

There was a lot of threads before that address this issue, after a while people just tell you to get used to it since it seems to be a persistent problem that Gateway most likely won't address.

Off my head, besides the bios flashing that worked for some, using powermizer to underclock the gpu seems to work for others as well. Personally, neither worked for my 7805u.

Besides replacing the gpu fan, only thing I've come up to is tweak the v-bios using the newest version of nibitor (5.1), which finally reads the 1gb version of the 9800m gts (but this is highly risky, most people won't suggest you to even touch it here.)

    Try .17

I know that adjusts the GPU fan.

You mean that the fan is start to blow then stop?
    I downgraded to .08 then I install .10 ,.12 then I switch back to .17
Maybe is in my mind but now is seems to be OK ,

I think i know what your talking about, its normal. it normally happens when i benchmark my system or stress tests. In games it doesnt make this noise and it is not a fan noise.

Well i guess it wouldnt be completely useless as you could use your generic Windows VGA driver to still do things like surf the web and type word documents, but all that GPU power you paid for would be history, unless you find people that could correct what you screwed up.

So yeah you can adjust the settings, but you take on a huge risk unless you actually know what you're doing.
Thats some of the reason why we gave up on trying to soft mod all of our 8800GTS GPU's into 8800GTX GPU's, it just ended up not worth the risk going at it blind.
