Hi, I have noticed whenever the fan located on left side stopped spinning, I can hear a humming high pitch sound coming from the fan. Does anyone share same problem as well? Or is it a problem? It bothers me when I'm doing something in quiet background.

Yep, same problem here. Especially annoying (for my wife) when watching hulu in bed at night!

I just sent Gateway Support an email about it. We'll see what happens.

Yea on the 7805u I also get a high pitched noise after the fan stops spinning, and the noise lasts about a minute then stops, unless the fan starts up and stops again.

By no means to bring back some dated thread, just to inform all other people who is having the same symptom of humming pitch sound. I've gone through some emails with gateway technical support and they decided to take my notebook in for repair. Maybe you should do the same :)

I'll wait and see how is my notebook when it got back.

Guys, is this a problem? I hear a high pitched noise only when the fan is working, the moment it starts working the noise comes, but it's VERY but VERY quiet, normally I don't notice it, the problem is when I'm in complete silence, because the sound becomes very annoying (right now for example...)

Can anyone confirm if changing the bios would work? Is this a caracteristic of the machine or a problem? Also, that thread with bios for 78 series does not apply for me, right? Because my actual driver version is 79.00.07...

    EDIT: found a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK4o7jA6KvQ&feature=related

It's not that loud, it's WAY quitter, but really annoying in silence...

My 7811 had the same problem before. I was having a high pitch eeeeeeee sound when the fan tried to spin up itself from low to high speed. I solved it by using the 9c.10.00 bios.

takezo, the sound thats coming from the laptop in the video you found is pretty much the same as mine, except mines just a bit quieter. any drawbacks in reverting back to an older bios version (eg. 9c.10.00)? the high pitched noise happens when the fan is doing its regular intervals of turning on and off, and whenever the fan is off the noise turns on.

Just an update for the returned laptop from repair center. Everything works fine so far, no more annoying humming high pitch noise when fan not spinning!!! A slight audible high pitch sound still can be heard when fan runs in high performance mode, but that don't concern me :)

    Happy gateway user now.

EDIT: After updating to 9c.17 bios, the sympton of humming high pitch sound is back again... I'm led to believe the humming high pitch sound is bios associated. Why did I waste 1 week of my time to figure it out.... And by updating to 9c.10 bios, my notebook will overheat itself then forcing shutdown on boot logo screen!! OMG, this is a practically useless notebook now. I will have to deal with gateway customer again.

Devious, I think that's completely normal because of the reports I've seen, it's a sound for the gpu when it's working I think, hehe, and in fact it does not bother at all.

I'm becoming a little wary because of all these posts recently on the same issue as I just started having the same problem. It's a very high pitch but barely audible sound that seems to happen everytime the GPU fan starts spinning from rest. It then stops once the fan stops.

Has anyone come to a solution on this one?
