Well I think my 7805u is dead. I was away from from my laptop for awhile. When I came back it was turned off. I had the power cord plugged in and noticed the light the shines blue while its plugged in wasn't on. I tried turning it back on and the charge light blinks red a few times and nothing else. So is my laptop dead?

What i suggest is checking out the battery/power adapter first.

Well I'm not sure how I'd go about checking the battery but, I noticed the light on the power adapter doesn't light up. I'm gonna see if I can find another charger and see if my laptop charges. If it ends up just being the charger can I get it replaced through gateway? Or am I gonna have to ebay shop?

Contact gateway if you are under warranty.

Yeah, it's most likely the charger. Are you sure the cords are in properly? Have you also tried plugging the charger in another socket?

Ive had this issue before, its because supposedly the power adapters for the FX models run at just enough power to satisfy the requirements of the laptop in which they run much more hot and at a higher frequency sound (hence the noise they emit when running). As Maverick suggested, check with gateway to get a new adapter... if you are not under warranty they will probably charge you about $30-$40 for it. Also, try the power cord itself with another outlet or see if you are plugging yours into an outlet with a reset button.

I've tried using a different socket, made sure everything is hooked up properly, and still nothing. The light on the adapter still isn't coming on so I think you guys are right about the adapter.

I contacted Gateway. Not such a bad experience actually. My laptop is still under their warranty and they're gonna be sending me a new power adapter.

Well that's kinda odd to run the adapters only at the required power. But, I have contacted Gateway and they're gonna be sending me a new adapter. Until I get it I had to pull out my old custom gaming tower...load SOB.

Thanks for the support guys I really appreciate it.
