If you are talking about overclocking, then there arent any specific clocks that work better in games. Just play with the clocks going up a bit at a time to find a good medium between speed and stability. If you are talking about control panel options, just read the descriptions. Each setting indicates what will improve performance and decrease quality, and viceversa. Just find where the game runs smooth and looks good. Althogh I suggest you change the pre rendered frames to as high as you can before you get input lag. (This is where mouse and keyboard movement is delayed). Pre render helps smooth out the game at lower FPS.

How do you even overclock and are there risks?

this should prove very useful:-

Did you do the proper method (Posted in a sticky at the top of this forum) for uninstalling and cleaning out the old drivers before installing the new ones?
If you were capped at ~60 fps it was probably because Vsync was on. This locks your FPS to your monitor's refresh rate.
Drivers that score best in benchmarks may not be best for gameplay. -
no aglobalthreatsk i didnt use the proper method for unistalling the old drivers befor installing the new ones...i just system restored my pc now and i'm gonna do it the proper way! thank you...i'll let you know the outcome...i'm sorry i'm such a noob to this whole laptop thing and pc games so i guess i totally screwed everything up!
-
i found that the 186.03 drivers (when OCed) were really screwy and caused severe artifacting in DoW2, not to mention the problem you described where the display driver stops responds and crashs to desktop before being recovered (and then all your clocks are downclocked to their lowest settings as well!)
-
does that only happen when you OC the gpu? i havent OCed anything on my laptop at all so i'm just wondering if its the way that i improperly installed the newer driver...i just did the system restore on my pc and istalled the driver again the proper way and am now currently re-downloading street fighter! fingers crossed!

Display driver crashing can occur when GPU is OCed too much; you'll also experience artifacts in-game too. For me, 186.03 was only good for attaining my 3DMark 06 score of 11659 @700/950/1750. In games, it would frequently crash to desktop or severely artifact.
Stable OCed drivers (700/950/1750) for games such as Gears of War, DoW: Soulstorm, DoW2, DMC4, UT3, C&C3, RA3, Streefighter IV benchmark in my experience have been 190.15 and 185.30. Get them from laptopvideo2go.com with modded .inf files. I personally prefer 190.15 as they give me a score of 11080 in 3DMark06 as opposed to 185.30's 10679 score. -

Looks like Moto has done lots of testing with OCing and many different drivers. Thanks for sharing your experience! -
yes thank you very much moto!!! i'm gonna give the 186.03 driver another go if i get the same results i'll most probably go with the 185.30 driver!!! thanx again for the advice!!! just to be sure i'm doing this correctly when i wanna install a new driver allz i gotta do is uninstall the existing driver use driver sweeper than install the new driver and reboot?

Copied directly from Nvidia sticky thread at top of this forum:
1) Uninstall current drivers from 'Programs and Features' in control panel -- Do NOT reboot
2) Right click 'Driver Sweeper' -- Select 'Run as administrator'
3) Tick 'NVIDIA - Display' -- Click 'Clean' -- Reboot to finish uninstallation
Then install new driver, and reboot when prompted to finish installation. -
ok i've installed the driver properly but now things have gotten alot worse!!! now all i can do is load the game to where i get the character select screen than when the match starts ...black screen!!! boots me to desktop afterwards and gives me an error message saying display driver has stopped working and has sucessfully recovered...i've tried a number of things to fix the problem but all to result in failure...i know its not a heating issue or a power issue...i just bought this laptop 2-3 months ago and this is the first 3d game i've tried to run on it...its frustrating

Are you still trying to use the 186.03 driver or are you using a different version now?
You're not overclocking the GPU right?
Is your Vista Power Profile set to High Performance? -
i tried going back to driver 185.85 ...i'm not overclocking...and my power profile is balanced
-

Try the 190.15 from laptopvideo2go.com (with modded .inf files). Use the proper uninstall/clean/reboot/install/reboot method that you did before.
Set your Vista Power Profile to High Performance.
I like the Dox 182.46 drivers. They may not be the best, but they have been flawless and trouble free for me. -
fixed the problem! just finished restoring everything back to the way it was when i first got it and i could play my game again! bad framerate though...dunno why but at least i could play! thank you everyone who gave me advice and tried to assist me!!!
-
-
all i did was use the gateway recovery management! it restored everything back to the way it was fresh out the box. i lost all my data but at least i can play games. only thing is i'm getting crappy framerate on street fighter with the settings on low. dunno why though?
-
That's how smooth it should look. Maybe you have a faulty machine? -
-
Just use "Adjust image settings with preview", set to balanced.
If no stuttering, then just leave it.
Report back here after you've tried. -

You should not need to change the priority in task manager.
Setting affinity to one CPU may help with old games/programs that do not have dual core support, but getting display drivers working is first priority. -
-
the 190.15 driver works perfectly!!! i guess it was just the 180.03 driver that was the problem...anywayz thank you to everyone who helped me!!!!i will now be playing street fighter with settings on high!!!!! thanks again!!!!!
7805u nvidia control panel settings help!!!
