I was very excited when I received my new 7805u yesterday. Today, I was testing out its performance in Team Fortress 2, tweaking graphics higher to see if it still ran good. I was very impressed with the laptop until it BSODed and now the screen won't turn on. I forgot to write down the BSOD message, but I remember it mentioning a file that ended in ".sys".
When TF2 crashed, it had 4x AA, 2x filtering, highest textures, multicore rendering, and motion blur. Everything else was on high. On my test server, I was getting 70-90 fps, so I was sure that the card could handle it. Now when I turn on the machine, the lights turn on and the fans start running, but the screen doesn't turn on. Attaching an external display does nothing, so I think it's the card. Also, the OS is Vista x64 home premium.
Is there anyway to check if it's really the card? Is it covered under a warranty from gateway? Is there a way for me to fix this on my own? Thanks for reading.

Define "tweeking graphics"
Were you jut plying with the settings in the game or were you overclocking the video card? -
Adjusting the settings in game. I didn't alter the graphics card or the drivers. The graphics driver is from March 2009.

Have you tried it on battery to see if the screen will come up?
Make sure nothing is plugged in when you're troubleshooting, you want to rule out as many things as you can. That includes network cable, switch WIFI off, unplug usb devices/headphones/media cards/etc..
Is the monitor backlight coming on? (Is it lighting up but just not displaying anything?)
or
Is the monitor NOT lighting up at all? (Dark screen that never changes, no actions whatsoever after powering on the laptop) -
The monitor doesn't light up at all. I tried it on battery with wifi off and nothing plugged in and it still doesn't work.
Does opening the laptop void the warranty? -

Wonder if your panel somehow got unplugged.
Try the boot then wait then Fn+f4 and see if your external moniter will pull up anything. You might have somehow fried your screen. -
yeesh, one day and dead...maybe i'll just play solitaire or freecell on mine.

was it brand new or a refurb...oh and try pulling out the battery and letting it sit for a bit, motherboard can discharge some bad mojo sometimes by doing that.

hrm... yeah i guess its time for a send back for replacement
best bet is to contact gateway for a new machine. I'm not sure what actually happened to your rig. It would seem the panel went out, but if you cant get anything to work i dont know. -

it's probably video related, and i can't image the lcd going belly up that soon, i've just seen things come to life sometimes when you flush out the motherboard of stored up power...anyways it's brand new, why not send it back.
