how much performance did you gain by installing XP?
i am planning to make dual boot and install xp 32 bit.
is it worth it? too many programs i use get either crashing too
often or imcompatible. like whenever i alt + tab games to shrink it
it just stops working afterward and some programs doesn't work properly. =(

Pretty much everything works with XP. XP will ALWAYS be faster than Vista/7/anything else that is released in the future.

If you want it to be crazy fast use nlite to remove most of the extra stuff installed with XP, then tweak it even further once you have it loaded on and booted up.

I have dual boot XP/7, I never even started vista when I first got my p7801u :)

Is there any specific reason you still want Vista? Instead of just wiping the OS and installing XP by itself? Or dual boot XP/7?

wait.. can you fresh install xp and then make it dual boot with other OS?
i heard somewhere that you have to install vista first to make dual boot with xp work which hardly made any sense to me. yeah.. speaking of OS, 7 is coming out in this year, right?

No. It is MUCH easier to dual boot if you have XP installed first. I have done both install both ways and you save many steps and its much easier when you install XP first.

7 is in beta stages and is currently available for download from microsoft and/or bittorrent. I've been using it on several computers for over a month. The beta expires on August 1st of this year. I assume the release will be in 2010, they have taken a few things out of Windows 7 so they can release it sooner.
