If anyone has the 7808u FX please post the bios version and some screen shots..Thanks!!
-

Wow, all that hardware and it doesn't have more than a 1440x900 screen?
 -

More than likely its successor will have UXWGA and faster Quad Processor--
My bigger issue is the $1700 price tag. -

I agree about the price. I am trying to get the bios version and stuff, maybe the quads will work in the 7811, 7801u, 7805u and the 7807u.. lets keep our fingers crossed..
 -

1150 for the 7805 and 1750 or so for the 7808. I don't think the p9000 quad is worth that premium............
 -

 you mean q9000....
but I agree especially having the lower clock... -

Give it 2 7200 rpm hard drives and 1920 x 1200 res and it'd maybe be worth the money they're asking for it. MAYBE.
 -

I just got this as an upgrade from the P6860. Basically Gateway didn't have anymore powerboards (fixed the heating issue myself, but I shorted the powerboard) so they just sent me this as a replacement.
Gaming performance boost is huge. I can set Xfire, Steam, etc... to one of the two unused cores while gaming is automatically dual-core optimized for the other two. Also, since 7200rpms won't make a difference for gaming, my benefit is less heat and power consumption. This thing runs nice and cool. with RA3 on max (ultra high VFX, 8xAA) I max at 60 degrees, and it drops as soon as I'm done.
If anyone has any questions about this laptop let me know. -
The two primary questions are what version bios and could you get a picture of the Heat Sink.............. ?
 -

Q9000 is great cpu if you can overclock it..
however, I don't think the gateway case can handle overclock.. unless they come up with new case with more efficient cooler.. -

Adam can you please just unscrew the memory cover on the bottom of the case and take a picture for us?
Can you also tell us what BIOS version appears when you start, it should be one of the first few things that popup as 9C.xx. -

9C.17.00

Let me know if you prefer that I resize this to fit. I just figured a large picture would make it easiest to look at. -

The last thing I would have expected. This is the old HS with the smaller copper..............
 -

Same BIOS, too--
Unless I'm misreading it.
9C.17.00
It IS the same BIOS as my 7805u. But so's pmassey's. And the QUAD he installed didn't work.
I wonder what else the 78XX needs to make the QUAD work.
pmassey, have you verified that the QUAD you bought works? I'm just asking-
So the good news is, we don't need a bigger heatsink(?). -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
We're all waiting for the BIOS version and pics of this heatsink just to se if we can run Quads on the 7805 and such. Check these links out- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=303626&page=110 -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
I must've posted right after he posted pics. Yes the Quad I tried was good. But, it was a QX9100 ES. Maybe, just maybe, a q9000 or q9100, OEM maybe would work. It's got to. What is different on the 7808. Got to be something-Not BIOS, or HS. MOBO? What could it be?
AND, holy crap! The HS numbers are identical except for the date! WOW. And wierd.
Maybe I got a bad one. I never did actually verify it with a computer as I didn't have something to check it on. Just sent it back for the money. Need to try again, and soon. -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Off topic real quick, but see that empty mini pcie slot, could you put a small pci ssd in there and put the OS on it? Anyone know? Sorry for jumping out there on a tangent
 -

By the way, the seller I mentioned in the BIOS thread, he only has one more--
 -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Yeeah. I'm watching it. Thinking real hard about it too. Might try and if it don't work, sell it back on eBay. It's killing me!!!!!!!11 -

 do it-
do it-
do it-

Plus he claims it's been verified to work on a 7801u- -

+Rep adam, thank you very very much, you just answered a TON of questions for us all.
So now, we still need to find that 9c.17 bios download and a retail Q9100
!
      -

You could if you bought a half-sized WiFi card opening up the slot that is occupied now.
But in all honesty, miniPCIe SSDs are slow as hell right now and most are likely still too big to fit in that slot. -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Thanks for the answer about SSD, and I have the BIOS on the comp but don't know how, or if I can save it as a file. If I can, some one let me know how or point me in the right direction. Thanks........
      -

per this add q9100 for 7805-u

Yep! I'm watching it and trying to deal with them. Hope to get it soon......

Wow this is amazing news. I checked my bios by going to start/run/ typing in msinfo32 and checking the summary listing for bios.
It says 9c.11.00 9/17/2008
I've been holding off on upgrades for awhile but if a Quad Core will work that may be a great reason to upgrade. -

It's definitely not worth it. The 9800m GTS and a Quad core are not worth $1750 at all. You can get better laptops from Sager at that price point. You could build a desktop that can handle Crysis and buy the 7801u for the same price!
 -

So I did a little google searching and I came across a guy who was asking for help. He said he had bios 9c.17.00 listed in his msinfo32 on his 7805u. That makese me think this is getting really close to a reality.
 -

...waaa, what about the 7811! LOL, so the 7808u has bios 9c.17.00 and works with bios, that great news!
 -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
7805 has same BIOS but I tried a q9100 QAVK and it didn't work. Gonna try a QGMU one day. It may have to be OEM to work. I don't know....... -

pmassey are you sure it is the same bios? My 7805u is showing 9c.11.00
No one has a copy of 9c.17.00 right? -

I thought Gateway's whole angle was affordable performance. That is too high.
 -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Oh, doubting Mustafa. look here

Two programs, Everest and MS can't be wrong!
      -

Just like everything else, price will come down--
 -

Need's a new look and design to justify the price tag, performance is very good but it still has the orange and copper trim.
C'mon Gateway how about a different design for the lid, it looks like every other FX model that came out. -

I agree a makeover is a must. Every FX model should be diffrent. But then Gateway needs to cut costs on these so I doubt there in a hurry to do a makeover.
 -

I think the design of the FX series is very very good. It is not extremely heavy like dell xps or toshiba x305 or aw m17. It is not as cheap built as MSI gt725 or Asus g50vt. The keyboard on these computers is one of the best I have ever seen. So I wouldn;t mind them keeping the style.
 -

Keeping the same design would somewhat keep the cost down.
At least to me, performance and reliability for the price are much more important than cosmetic looks. -

I agree about the keyboards, one of the best for a laptop..
 -

How expensive could it be to come up with a new color scheme?, OK maybe I can concede on the design but at least come up with a new style for the lid , also the Keyboard is great but I can't really comment on the other laptops mentioned because I never had a chance to use the others.
Imagine if it had a solid Black lid( Not glossy to show fingerprints) and maybe use a silver color trim around the keyboard instead of the orange/copper trim, nothing fancy just change it up a bit to make it look fresher.
That's not asking for to much is it?
If you put every FX model that ever came out you would not be able to tell them apart.
      -

the regular P series (non FX models) are exactly how you described but those don;t have the 9800m GPU.
 -

Forget it, mon-- Witness the Asus G50VT X-5. It seems when companies think of affordable gaming, they consult a design challenged eleven year old on prozac...
http://www.mypay-computers-credit.com/wp-content/uploads/asus-gunslinger.jpg
I owned this bulky "15" inch laptop for six days [it is alot louder in person] until I realized I was not their demographic target for this laptop.
Given this choice, I'd stick with the current FX design. -

The ASUS X-5 is not what I was talking about, (the original X-1 was acceptable with the wavy blue lines, the X-5 with the FUSION lid and lightning bolt theme, UGH! all I will say it's not my style).
Just a little different look that's all, nothing that extreme! -

Yes, the X-1 was ok. But that chintzy republic of gamers and the explosion at bootup gotta go.
Sorry, mon. just put a laptop skin or something...
Plus, if you owned a G50VT, you'll realize just how unportable that 15" laptop could be-- about 3/4" smaller than the FX- and thicker. -
Well I like it haha xD
FX, X1, X5, X6 I like the design of them all, it's different then acer, hp , dell and sony sober design
      -

Hey if it will make the company a ton of money, I'm all for it--
In a way, I'm glad the X-5 didn't appeal to me. More business for Gateway and Clevo- Means more laptop choices for people out there.
