I on engadget reading about the 7808u and I'm really on the edge here..

I have a 7805u with a 1920x1200 screen and a 7200rpm hd.. Does that quad core really pack in enough to make it worth the downgrade in the resolution and the HD?

And I'm wondering if its possible, if at all, to flash the bios and add a quad core cpu to our 7805us?

Comments? Ideas? Piffy replies (God I hate O'rielly)

Um...just wait for the new bios to come out. The entire 7 FX series uses the same motherboard so it will be no time before you can install a quad core...and if I were you I would wait till summer to buy your quad core....because intel decided to freeze prices on mobile quad cores till the summer.

I wouldn't really go with the 7808u since the Quad in it is only 2Ghz and almost all the programs and games we use don't use more then two cores most of the time so in regular use you'll have the same power as a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo.
Though if you actually have programs and games that use more than two cores I guess it could help.. Though the normal user wouldn't use more than two cores.

    Semi Gamer,

What CPU would you recommend for an upgrade?

I would just get the 7805u, upgrade the screen and wait it out.....

Well you already have an LG WUVGA screen so nvm xD

Just wait it out...like I said quad cores are going to drop drastically in price in a couple of months.

Depends, I feel you should only upgrade your CPU if you feel you actually need more power, I don't believe in upgrading just for bragging rights.
But if your going to upgrade I'd atleast make sure its a 3GHz or more increase since anything less than that you'll have a hard time noticing the upgrade.
If I were to upgrade mine. And I might when prices drop, I think I'm going for the P9600 or the T9800. :)

I thought that was the new laptop where you push the button and then run as fast as you can the other way. I thought at least maybe it is why Intel wore all those radioactive type white suits in those commercials....... :)

Haha, thats true, I suppose the army could use Ultraportables with 3.0Ghz Quad-cores. They could throw them like a frisbie one way and sneak up behind the enemy when they all look at the exploding laptop :)
