Okay.. my dog just ate my power cord and I'm on battery power.
The Targus 180W isn't anywhere local and I'd have to order it online and I NEED my laptop.
Will the Kennsington 120W just fine? They are selling them at a circuit city that is going out of business for pretty big discounts, but it's a "all sales are final" kinda deal.
I've seen a few references to one.. but I haven't heard anyone say that N3 tip works with the 7811 specifically, but it does on 7805u. I THINK they are the same, but again all sales are final and I'm not rich.
I bought a Targus 90W, but I will have to return it as it will only run the lappy in low power mode.
Any input would be helpful as I'm kinda in a huge hurry.

Reviews from a week or so back indicated the Kensington worked, just got VERY hot. Make certain to provide it with good ventilation. The short AC cord means it will hang on the wall instead of sitting on the floor, etc.

Can you link the post on the review? I can't find it for the life of me.. and what are your settings to get 270Mbps on your WRT 610? I can only get up to 135Mbps with the 5100 in the 7811.
If you have a link for that too it would be wonderful. I promise +repies! -

610 settings:
5G mode (N only, no B or G) WPA/WPA2 40Mhz bandwidth setting (not 20) -
Yeah I did all that.. and more at this point.

I found your original post from September. Did you ever switch to the 610? I originally had the D-Link 655 as well. Never could get it to work properly over 130Mb/sec. Now it's a doorstop...
-
Yeah that D-Link only lasted about 1 day then I went to the Linysys WRT610N. I have a post around somewhere of everything I did. I've played with every setting, and searched high and low for info on both the NIC in the 7811 and the Router.
I had come to the conclusion that it was an issue with the 5100 NIC compatibility with the Router. Was debating buying the 5300 which is the non-economy version to fix the problem but never got around to it.
Still not sure that is even the problem. But the 4965 and the 5300 NIC's seem to be better cards then the 5100. So it was my last thought. I thought maybe you had some amazing insight that I hadn't found yet.
I'm using 5Ghz N only 40Mhz WPA2 AES, and then I optimized all the settings on the advanced page from info I've found on the net. 2307 mods and RTS changes and such. -
Orientation of the router (built-in antennae, who's idea was that?) and location seem to make a big difference. I get my max speed when close to the router and on the same "plane". I drop down to the one-hundreds when I go upstairs...
-
Ahh okay. I get 135Mbps when upstairs through a floor almost directly over the router. As I figured probably as good as I'm going to get.
Also, thanks on the link for the power bricks. Still can't decide which to get, but at least I have info now.
Kensington seems to do the job but get hot and way more portable.
Targus is a brick and not very portable and not local.
Probably just go grab that Kensington.
Thanks again. -
If you got nothing and can't wait for delivery then get the Kensington, it will work.

I got it.. and it's actually pretty fantastic. I don't particularly care for the way it plugs in, I mean they could have put an elbow fitting on it at the very least. With the USB connections from the Cryo Cooler and this Kensington plug out the back I do have more stuff sticking out then I'd like. I need to find some USB elbows or something at the very least.
But it's small and lightweight and it doesn't get nearly as hot as people made it sound. And the hanging from the wall is actually a GOOD thing as it allows to it to get much better airflow around it.
Pretty happy with it overall. I don't take my laptop a ton of places but having a power brick that fits in the bag well is always a big plus in my book.
