Upgrading the CPU as soon as I can decide on one. I believe the T9600 is the best price-performance balance, but I may be able to get a P9600 cheap.

    Oh yeah, both QS.

    Thoughts? Opinions? Rants? Beers?

I like a good Bluemoon myself.

From what I have read the T9600 will run much cooler than the P9600

Think you got that the wrong way round Jlanm. The P9600 is a 25W CPU compared to the 35W T9600. I personally would go for the P9600 even though you are losing 200MHz in speed the temperature benefits greatly outweigh the slight increase in speed.

Well, I don't think the 7811 has a problem with temps (at least mine doesn't). I also usually use the Zalman NC-2000 cooling pad during gaming. However, if the power consumption is considerably less with the P9600 (I don't think it is), that would be a definate plus.

Anyone know how these things undervolt?

A friend of mine has a P9600 he just bought last week but now wants the X9100. As soon as his new CPU arrives, the P9600 is mine (if I want it) for $175, which I think is about $80 cheaper than what the T9600 goes for on eBay (at least from a credible seller).

I think it's a good deal, but I don't want to short myself on something much better (the T9600, if it is) for only $80 more....I'm just hoping that between now and next week I can save my buddy's life so he'll owe me one and let me take that X9100 off his hands for free. ^_^

Yeah, I just looked up the prices of QS T9600's on eBay, and it's generally $60-$100 more. I don't think the extra mhz is worth it if you couple in the extra consumption. I'm thinking I'll get the P9600 from him and then save up for a X9100 (eventually). As soon as he gets back from the inauguration, I should have it. Hopefully all will go smoothly as this will be the first time I'll have ever upgraded a major computer component (seriously).

Anyone know what the resale is of the P8400?

I believe an X9100 is not a good choice for the 7811 as it will exacerbate the temperature monitoring bug.

Intel just announced a 10% cut on the price of the P8600... my guess is that the price of a used P8400 will be hit due to the price cut on intel's lower end P series CPU... therefore, sell it asap before the value drops even further

The P9600 boosted my 3dmark scores by over 800 points. Plus, it runs cooler and is cheaper than the T9600, that's why I chose it.

I paid ~$200 for mine, so $175 is a pretty good deal... :D
