There is a 10GB empty partition labeled EISA Configuration. Can and should I delete this partition to free up space? (I'm quite short on space at this moment). How does the system utilize this partition and how will it be impacted if I got rid of it?
Oh and one more question; can the 7811FX support 12.5mm HDDs like this one?

1)The EISA partition is used to either restore the system or for making a set of restore DVD/CD's. There is actually data on it but Vista just does not see it. Is okay to delete but not wise unless one has made their restore DVD/CD's first. Gpart works really well for deleting it.
2) Negative, not internally. In an external enclosure, yes. -
Do I still need a restore CD/DVD if I have the Vista Installation DVD? (One was included with the laptop). What advantages does the restore disk have over the installation disk?

Just me but yes I would make a restore set, only takes 2 DVD's or if using CD's I think it was approx 11 cd's. The restore set has some application data the the included disc does not. Is nice to have a couple of different options incase something goes wrong.
