Quick question regarding the fans on the bottom of the 7811: I know the GPU fan sucks air in through the bottom but the fan on the opposite side does what?

It should be the fan for the CPU.

I know this is a different model but it looks like its not sitting right on the CPU but is a fan over a heatsink? I've never had a laptop before only desktops so I'm not sure how they cool . Would this fan suck air into the laptop or away from it?

No, the copper bar (the heatsink) carries the heat conducted by the cpu and northbridge down to the fan. the fun then sucks air from the bottom and blows it out the top right bottom part of your notebook.
