So I've had the 7811 for about two days now and felt like perhaps i should just post a quick first impressions review.

Slight keyboard flex along the palmrests and control pannel.

Speakers are okay, but not great

Keyboard quiet and comfortable to type on with little flex.

DVD drive is a little flimsy when putting a CD into the drive, just needs careful support with two hands.

USB ports are in good locations

screen is sharp, crisp, and beautiful no dead pixels

Touch pad is of good size and a pleasure to use.

Touchpad buttons have good response and a nice clicking sound.

Graphics card is amazing, and CPU runs fairly cool.

Computer does a great job of expelling heat. The notebook is slightly warm to the touch but much cooler than other notebooks when not doing high performance gaming.

The computer came with two paritions, and a recovery disc.

Windows experience score 5.2 (the bottle neck is the processor)

with resolution on max, and windows aero turned on i'm using 25% of my RAM on idle. Could probably be better, but that is acceptable for me at the moment.

    DVD Battery run down test:
High performance power plan, all LEDs on
    1h 48 minutes

If anyone has any specific questions about this notebook i'd be happy to answer them.

What do you mean by saying flimsy? Is it like it gets stuck when you try to close it?

i got this notebook too and today i played some counterstrike source but after an hour the computer froze. is it because it got too hot? if thats the case, am i not supposed to play long hours of game in a notebook? Also light games like lets say maplestory, can i play like 6 hours straight and it will be okay?

You should be able to play for as many hours as you want and it should'nt lock up . Counterstrike could have froze for other reasons ie software problem .

The tray itself doesn't really handle downward pressure all that well. i.e. when you're trying to push a cd onto the spindle. I find if i brace the tray with one hand and push down with my other there is no worries however.

do you have the 1 second on fan thing as I have seen from the rest? I just got mine and every time it hits about 45 degrees it turns on for less than a second then off. I've been looking to see if there is something that can be changed or its just a little quirk.

well unless using a cooler, my drive on my 6860 only has about 1/8" of space under it, so i can push and it hits the desk barely even moving.

Trust me, this is a -known- issue. Anandtech had lockup issues, a review site! So it's not just us. I've been having my issues too, lockups at random. My power brick hisses as well, did with the 6860 as well.

my fan will do the one second thing from time to time when streaming a video or some other such thing. I honestly only notice it late at night when the town is all quiet and everything in my place is turned off and i'm watching a movie before bed. I wouldn't call it a problem by any means, but right as this moment i'm not experiencing it.

My power supply doesn't make any noise at all either as some have been reporting.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    also.

Windows hasn't frozen on me yet.... but there are some hic-ups when going into a low resolution game. Nothing that isn't corrected by itself, but a bit interesting.

I've found the 1920x1200 res to be too high for regular use so i keep it set to 1600 x 1024 unless i'm using a graphics of video editing program.

I've been pushing this thing the last day or two by playing Team fortress 2 and counter strike pretty much none stop for the better part of 10-11 hours at a time and then going directly into television streaming via hulu.com as i sleep.

The part of the notebook were the harddrives are located seems to be the area that gets the hottest, i'm not sure if that's normal but still even at this things hottest it in my opinion still isn't as bad as some older laptops thats i've owned.

Thankfully (knock on wood) i've experienced no major problems what-so-ever and am quite enjoying this laptop.

I was having lockups with my first 7811 so I took it back and exchanged for another one. The second one has been working fine. You might try to take it back and exchange before your 14 days are up.

    Known issue on early machines.

Update your bios and vista drivers.

there is a better way than this: open ie, go to page -text size-largest
then go to tools-internet options-general--at the bottom "accessibility"--formatting--ignore font size specified on web pages.

u can find the similar advacned option on firefox too.
this way u can still stay in dpi 96--images display in native res.
