    First question, what is undervolting?

Second question, can anyone point me to a good guide for OC'ing this laptop?

My NXZT notebook cooler should be arriving today and I want to tune the laptop up a little bit for gaming.

Also, anyone else having problems getting Riva Tuner to work? I haven't used it before so that could be part of the problem. My desktop has a EVGA card so I've been using the Precision tuner from EVGA and its much simpler.

Basically any good guides or software anyone can point me too would be much appreciated. I seem to have one of the cool running laptops so I figure with that + notebook cooler I should have plenty of OC room.

EVGA Precision tuner is exactly like Rivatuner, just a watered down version. It is created by the same guy. I'm also looking for the specs on overclocking the GPU. I believe undervolting means to lower the voltage of the CPU so it runs cooler (in OCing the CPU, most people would up the voltage).

I understand Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision are created by the same guy. Have you used both? Because the interface is vastly different and I'm having trouble figuring out Riva Tuner.

I've used Rivatuner before (actually I'm using it right now, just searching for the default speed) and I've seen EVGA Precision tuner. Yeah, the interface is totally different but from what I read, it's basically the same thing.

Ocing the video card is extremely easy using Ntune, the undervolting not so much. There is a guide on the net for how to do it but it is for all laptops. Someone should post the specific values they are using for undervolting following the guide's procedure so it is a much more simple process.

Yeah I just can't seem to get Riva Tuner to work. Not sure if it's just not ready for this laptop or something. Can't even get it to read the speeds unless I'm doing it wrong. Precision Tune is so much easier.

I'm trying to stay away from Ntune. I've heard terrible things about it including corrupting your registry. I have no personal experience, its just what I've heard.

Okay what the heck. I just OC the GPU using Rivatuner and my results are weird. Check out the pics for more info:

Ever since I bought my laptop on Sept 1st, I never had a crash...until now. I install Ntune, opened it, and then crashed. Wtheck? I turned on the laptop, opened Ntune, crashed. Now I'm uninstalling this POS.

@JBN...you realize that the default speeds for the 9800M GTS are as follows
    core: 600
    memory: 800
    shaders: 1500

stop using rivatuner, and give this a try.... here

its what i use on my 6860 and havent had ANY crashes.

@the OP. undervolting is the process of, by bios flashing (GPU) or via software (CPU), making something run at a lower voltage thus making it run cooler. see this guide for details on cpu undervolting

Yeah I'm aware of the default speeds. However, that's the max I can adjust in Rivatuner =/

i hope you are giving the nVidia system tools with esa support that i linked you to a try then, because i can set core up to 1000mhz, memory to 1320 mhz, and shaders all the way to 2500mhz

nTune=Incorported with Nvidia system tools file now, I should of been more specific. You were probably using an old version of nTUNE.

Actually I went directly to Nvidia's site and download the latest Ntune (version 5 point something). I'll be testing out the OC now.

Yeah I did install the link you posted mate =). I'm using it right now and it's working awesome-ly. Here are the pics and improvement. HWmonitor was running during the test also and was print screen immediately after the 3DMark06 test so the temps are as accurate as possible.

    Core clock: 700
    Memory clock: 800
    Shader: 1600

I'll post up more results as I slowly OC the GPU some more.

looks like that memory speed needs to be bumped up some, but good score overall

What can you tell me about this software? I hate N-Tune and would not put that poisonous POC on my system. Is NVIDIA System Tools with ESA Support easy to install/uninstall without poisoning your system?

it includes the performance (aka nTune), a system monitor to monitor temps, and nvidia system update which looks for new versions of gpu drivers and such. i personally only install the performance tool, as i have other programs for the other stuff/i keep an eye out for new drivers.

as for uninstalling any of the above, its really easy to uninstall. and all i do is run ccleaners registry cleaner afterwards to get rid of the file extensions.

Well, I suppose even nTune could have been improved and made workable ... tough job but I'll believe you.

Okay so after running that test, I tried a higher clock and 3DMark06 got really low scores (~1900 marks). I shut down the laptop and retried it and I got the same results. Then I tried the newest Ntune (the 5.05.54 version that Diablo linked me) and I got the same results. So...what happened? Look at the pics and you'll see.

hold up...i only linked you to the nvidia system tools with esa support. not the version of ntune that was released last year.
