Do you connect to an external monitor?

I have an excellent 22" Dell sitting next to me but I really don't see the point. I'm not a dual monitor type, so I don't have a use for it. Currently on Craigslist; shame.

So do you guys use your 7811 as-is or with external hook ups like a monitor and keyboard? (mouse doesn't count)

keyboard-mouse wireless combo on all lappies. much more productive that way. and more fun gaming. plus (I've just used the 7811 a few times) the 7811 keys feel jittery. if i had a 22 inch monitor, i would definitely connect to that, at least while gaming, movies etc.

I use mine as is as well except that I uses an external mouse instead of the trackpad. I actually use the 7811 as my portable/laptop sw development machine for when I want to work while sitting on the coach or away from home. While not a convenient as my dual 24" setup, the 7811 is great for me in a laptop role since it has the screen space and the cpu/graphics horsepower. Yeah, I could have gone the HP elitebook route (and was actually planning on doing that), but so far the 7811 has done a great job at a fraction of the price.

I use an optical mouse, but have yet to connect to an external monitor... One of the main reasons I bought it was the high res 17" display so that I wouldn't have to add an external display, but I suppose I should check it out now. I do use my laptop to give presentations from time to time.

I use it with all it's natural beauty, no additives. Except when I game, I use a wireless mouse. :D

Wow, so you mostly use the trackpad? That's interesting. A wireless mouse is the one accessory that's a MUST for me. Everything else I can do without.

Yes, I'm used to the touchpad. Not always in a position to utilize a mouse.

I almost exclusively use mine in a portable environment where an external mouse would be difficult to use. I have however hooked mine up to my 46" Samsung 1080P TV and watched streaming video from Netflix. It looks decent. I also tried COD4 hooked up to the same TV, and it looked great.

I'm thinking about gaming with mine on a TV, does it look and play pretty well on yours?

It automatically adjusted the resolution to the max that my tv could handle, shich is 1920x1080P. The game looked awsome, and it played just like I was using the laptop screen because it was nearly the same resolution.

    Thanks.
I'm thinking of getting this laptop, just not sure.
The complaints of heat make me a bit nervous, but I guess with proper ventilation and a cooler it should be fine.
Are you happy with the performance too?

I've had it for a couple of weeks and LOVE IT! The performance/price ratio is amazing. I haven't had any heating issues, although I'm not a hardcore gamer like some here.

No problems at all. I prefer the crisp built in screen compared to a TV monitor. With no cooler I don't see temps go above 70c on the graphics card and 55 on the CPU.

I came within an inch of buying a 27.5" HannsG monitor from Costco (399.00 - wow) yesterday to hook up to my new 7811. Same resolution for gaming, mondo screen with good if not top quality, and I can dual-monitor the regular screen and the monitor for work.

The one caveat is that HannsG has a lame 10 dead-pixel return policy, but buying it local means I can exchange it for another if I have a problem.

Costco is amazing....they used to have an even better return policy before 2006. People would buy big TV's and like two years later when they wanted to upgrade they would just haul them back and Costco would take it.

I would go with that HannsG. That's a great price.
