As the Gateway P-7811FX becomes harder and harder to find "in the wild" I thought a quick "I saw one here" thread might be very helpful for those looking for the machine.

For example I saw one on Clearance for $1080 at the Best Buy in Gainesville, GA, 10/29.

If I go back I'll ask if there are more than the one on display.

**** I would get that in a sec.
Don't think I'd save much flying across the country though. :(

Best Buy stores can set their own pricing. I might have set a low-price record by getting two 7811-FX's NIB (the 2887's, one for me and one for my sister) for 941.00 each at a nearby Best Buy (Hadley, MA).
They have 1 display model left priced at 1069.00, but I bet they'd lower the price and sell it for 941.00 too.

The reason the manager gave me for the incredisale was simple - "This is a college town. Everyone wants something light and portable. We only sold maybe 1 of these per week, ever."

So it's well worth calling up your local BB and having them check the local area for you. They can even see the pricing for the other stores.

    Good luck!

For anyone still looking the Best Buy opposite the Mall of Georgia (Buford, GA) has TWO Gateway 7811s in stock, one new in a box, the other the shelf unit, for $1029, as of 4PM 11/11/08.

Make sure to check around, as they are getting hard to find. I scored one from the BBY in Winston Salem, NC for 750 + tax on Sunday 11/9/08. According to the store online availability tool the Greensboro, NC store still has some but not sure on price.

$750?? That's the best price yet, I think. Close to half what I paid; what an absolute steal! Was that a demo unit or fresh in a box?

If you take the information from another bestbuy to the bestbuy you bought it from, will they refund the difference?

This was the Winston Salem, NC store. They were clearancing them out. It is my understanding though that they do not have to price match between stores on clearance items. That particular store has no stock now.
