I've been trying to get the 1920x1200 screen in one of these machines for a month now with no luck.

Think bidding on something like that is worth it?
It's the refurb 7811 from tigerdirect (i guess) from a few months ago.

Is there anything other than the 512mb less of video ram and smaller hard drive to worry about with this? I thought I read the new 9800gts was 55nm so it's cooler running.

    Anyways, your thoughts are appreciated.

Not bad but i wouldnt pay over 700 for a refurb....instead save a save a few hundred for a new p-7801u with the 1920x resolution

OR p-7805u for a better deal if you wana take the risk of not getting the resolution you want....I myself will going to BB in about an hour to pick up their last HOPEFULLY 1920x p-7805u...and HOPEFULLY they held it for me like i asked!

Good luck to both you and I!

    Good luck

Well, the woman already bid 600 for it. That'll be the limit for me. Otherwise I'm looking at a lightly used one, then a new one.

    OT: LOL - I'm a Glock Model 22 in 40 cal too!

$600 is all you can get for one of these things? Dang! That's like half price (or more) from original cost. Wow. Depreciation is worse than cars!

I wouldn't obsess over the 7811 specifically. I have the 7801u, the newer version of the 7811 essentially, and I love it! Also don't buy refurbished cause you might not know which production of the 7811 you'd be getting.

if you can get a new 7811 for cheaper than a 7801 (which is highly, highly unlikely) I would tell you to go for it. The 7801 is basically a rebranded and mass marketed version of the 7811 with an unnecessary amount of vram.

Depending on how patient you are, and how much effort you're willing to put in, the refurbished 7811's are still being sold occasionally on Tiger Direct and CompUSA. From what I can tell, every 3-4 weeks they get a batch in, and they sell out in a couple hours. I just bought one on Friday ($750 - $75 cash back=$675), and they were in stock near the beginning of February as well.

    There's a couple threads on Slickdeals.net:

    http://slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1074352
    http://slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1085250

    and I started one here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=357671

just bookmark them and check whenever you're near a computer,

or the actual item pages from TD and CompUSA:

    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...asp?EdpNo=4348628&csid=ITD&body=WARRANTY#tabs
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=4348628&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs
    http://www.compusa.com/applications...ffiliateID=YY3FLv090oQ-ZdC8zOUAqoMuKKlGK7.LtQ

If you can catch one in stock, it's just a little more than half the price of the 7805 ($1149+tax at Best Buy) or 7801 ($1299-$1499), and all you're sacrificing is a little HD space and some video memory that you may never access.

They always come back once in a awhile for around 1-2 hours in tigerdirect. Better to get it from there if its refurbished.
