Thank you very much it turned them all off. Will I have to press FN + F1 every
time I start the laptop. Is there a way to make it the default setting?

My pleasure, I am not sure if there is a software or registry entry that can do this by default......

Edit: seems to be a hardware register as if you do a restart the media keys stay off but if you do a shutdown they are back on at power up. Windows by defult does not seem to comtrol them, not even sure that it can...............

The bad thing is Fn-F1 disables a useful LED in the form of the HD indicator as well.

Black electrical tape should work well. :)

Thanks this was useful for me too. However it disabled all the other indicators, Wireless, numlock and caps lock. The hard drive indicator still seems to be on. This would surely save battery life.
To my calculations around 7 watts, using BattStat. With them on my laptop was pulling 29.2W then when they were off it dropped to 22.1W immediately.
Different conditions may yield different results naturally.

That's a great idea, I'll have to get in the habit of turning them off. I've done it before (I actually read the manual, obviously unlike some people in this thread :p ) simply to try it. I wish I could disable the plugged in light while the laptop is off though, I hate bright LEDs! My desktop only has the power and reset hooked up, LEDs are too bright!
