7811 vista ultimate defrag by the Slowskies

I don't know why my RAID-0 became severely fragmented but defrag is slower than I have ever experienced.

I know, some don't think it necessary to defrag any more but I notice a performance increase at times after defrag. I have been using Auslogic lately and it was slower than normal so I tried Defraggler and it showed that Auslogic did nothing. Defraggler has been running for 2+ days and is still cranking away. Restarts change nothing. Odd occurrence?

It appears that Defraggler is superior to Auslogic. At least it didn't just lie to me and say defrag was completed. But I wonder what caused the slowness?

It's a mystery.

 

have you tried reinstalling defraggler? It works great for me, i usually just let it run over night and it's done in the morning.

 

I use Power Defragmenter GUI and usually can do it under 20 minutes for both my 500 and 750GB drives.

 

Most defrag programs do the same thing (PC Magazine) the difference is speed. Auslogic is the fastest (usually), about 10 mins on my lappy, after a bit torret

 

I use O&O pro myself, great program and it automatically steps in and defrags when necessary without being a resource hog most of the time. Has a bunch of different options of how it can defrag as well. (space, recently accessed, alphabetic, etc)

 

HA, yes, we all have our favorites and I have used every one of those mentioned at one time or other. But I have never had this slow defrag. Something is different here. The system is snappy as normal but the defrag is slow. It will be interesting to see if Defraggler finds more on the second pass. If it ever gets done with the first pass.

Maybe it is shutting down with screen blank or when I am running other stuff. Just noticed.

OK setting "background" instead of "normal" seems to work better. Maybe at "normal" Defraggler can't have anything else running????

Tip: Stop your real time virus scanner before running JkDefrag. Virus scanners check all disk activity, making defragmentation and optimization very slow.

I usually don't have antivirus running resident but do right now ... maybe that's it.

Defraggler defrags the "system volume information" hog and Auslogic seems to ignore it.

My marathon defrag is over. I even gained a bunch of space, can't remember that happening before. Defraggler is very thourough with several option ie. free space defrag and schedule, etc. I think I like it.
