Hey, I just got my Cryo LX in today and was wondering how you guys normal position the laptop on it to get the greatest decrease in temps. While I haven't much testing I guess you could say I haven't seem much temp drops from me proping the back up with a book to using this cooler. After ~15min of gaming my temps on my CPU and GPU probably droped ~2C. I was kind of expecting more then that.

Also I have been reading on how people power this thing to get better fan speed and that confuses me. Im not sure how to go about powering it off something else. Right now I just have both USB cables pluged into my laptop. Any help is welcome, thanks!

I removed the holed grate on top that protects the fans on my CryoLX so it didn't block them at all. It looks a lot cooler without the grate actually.

As to the power, powering it from the notebook will give you just as much speed, but people have reported that it can cause too much power to be drawn and windows power warnings, which is the main reason to power it externally. Either way, you have to have the USB to USB connected to it in order to get max power, even if you don't use the USB to DC but instead power it externally.

Oh ok, so if I were to power it externally I would connect the usb-usb cable from the LX to lets say a USB hub thats connected to the wall socket? Also, did you see noticeable results when you removed the grate? Thanks.

Haven't tested it without the grate. Also, you have to plug USB to USB into computer for full power. The USB to DC can go to computer or wall.
